In Japan, the new Mazda Carol was unveiled. Mazda’s intriguing kei vehicle ushers in a new age of innovation. A model that is, in actuality, a Suzuki Alto that has been emphasized. The electrification of the grid is one of the most notable advancements.
The new Suzuki Alto made its premiere in far-flung Japan about a month ago. Suzuki’s intriguing kei automobile came with a generation full of key new features. As a result of this evolution, a Mazda insignia-based alternative is now available. The new Mazda Carol 2022 is already a thing of the past.
And, despite the fact that it is not a model that we will see in this area of the world. If it is sold in Europe, it will be extremely tough for the Dacia Spring to compete.
Carol was not a well-known model until recently. This little city automobile first appeared on the scene in 1962, and it has since been passed down through eight generations. Mazda opted to adopt the Suzuki model a few decades ago to save the cost of producing a car with these qualities on its own and so remain competitive in a highly significant segment of the Japanese market.
The new Mazda Carol 2022’s keys
On a purely visual level, there is no surprise. The outside appearance is almost comparable to that of the Suzuki model. If we look at the front of the car closely, we can see that the chrome trim that joins the light clusters has been removed. The Mazda symbol is prominently displayed and attracts a lot of attention.
The Mazda emblem appears on the 14-inch alloy wheels as well. The bodywork is available in a variety of colors, and a two-tone arrangement with the roof and external mirror caps in contrast is an option.
If we ignore the outside, we will notice another change once we enter the cabin. Mazda’s pictures reveal a simpler interior, with a regular steering wheel and no multifunction controls, as well as the absence of the touch screen found on the Suzuki model. Otherwise, the inside is essentially the same.
The new Mazda Carol 2022’s electric mechanics
In terms of the mechanical aspect, we’re dealing with one of the new generation’s defining features. It’s also because it’s devoted to electrification. Although this is a little concession, it is a crucial step toward achieving greater efficiency. It is powered by a 660cc three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 49 horsepower.
Suzuki’s Light Hybrid Technology (MHEV) is used to electrify the engine. It will be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants, and will be powered by a CVT-type automatic transmission.
When will it be available? The new Carol’s commercial introduction in Japan is right around the corner. Mazda has stated that the vehicle would be available in Mazda stores in January 2022. The Hybrid GS and Hybrid GX trim levels will be available.
Suzuki is built in Shizuoka Prefecture’s Kosai industry, and city people are best described as diminutive. The new Carol has a length of 3,395 mm (133.6 inches) and a wheelbase of 2,460 mm (96.8 inches), making it much smaller than the 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback in the United States market.
Mazda initially provided two engine choices, each with a displacement of 658 and 657 cubic centimeters. At 6,500 rpm, the R06A three-cylinder engine generates 46 ps (also known as 46 horsepower) and 55 Nm (40.5 lb-ft) at 4,000 rpm.
The buyer also purchased the R06D mild hybrid system, which offers two more horsepower and three Newton meters of torque.
680 kilograms (1,499 lb) is the lightest configuration, while 750 kg is the heaviest (1,653 lb). Carol also has all-wheel drive options.
Only six finishes are available on the exterior, while the inside mostly consists of black plastic with colorful ornamental bits and internal ornamentation. The most fuel-efficient Carol, according to WLTC, is a front-drive mild hybrid that gets 27.7 kilometers per liter (65.2 miles per gallon).
Carol intends to arrive to the dealer’s forecourt next month, with prices starting at 998,800 yen (8,680 US dollars at the current currency rate) and going up to 1,303,500 yen (approximately 11,330 US dollars).
The Honda N-Box is the best-selling kei vehicle model in 2020, according to the kei car ranking list. Last year, Suzuki came in second with the boxy Spacia. It has a bit more space than Carol, as the name implies.
