Some 289,000 Audi Q5 SUVs are being recalled following the discovery that a gateway control module shutdown could reduce engine power.
The recall affects model-year 2021-22 Audi Q5 Sportback and SQ5 Sportback SUVs, and model-year 2018-22 Q5 and SQ5 SUVs. The brand detailed that a liquid spill in the rear seat, or water ingress from an insufficient body seam underneath the vehicle, may allow liquid to penetrate the gateway control module, causing it to shutdown. A gateway control module shutdown will suddenly reduce engine power, increasing the risk of a crash.
As a remedy, dealers will install a protective cover on the gateway control module and seal an underbody seam, as necessary, for free. Audi will begin notifying owners Feb. 24, 2022; those with further questions can call the brand at 800-253-2834, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
