A limited-run, road-legal GT3-spec Audi R8 is currently in development, possibly serving as a swansong for the V10 supercar. Equipped with aggressive aero, centre-lock wheels and a roof-mounted air intake – this may be Audi’s most lunacy-filled model in several years.
Audi’s decision to embark on this project is notable, especially considering that they previously unveiled the Audi R8 GT as the official send-off for the model. This raises questions about how this new offering will be positioned in the market in comparison to its 5,2-litre competitors.
The car’s design reflects a strong influence from the world of motorsport, featuring race-inspired components and an aggressive aesthetic. The front end is equipped with a new bumper with canards and a substantial splitter. Heat extraction vents on the bonnet and pressure-reducing vents above the front wheel arches indicate a focus on performance. Thinner windows and a significant snorkel feeding the engine highlight the car’s racing pedigree.

Under the bonnet, V10 badging suggests a powertrain similar to the most potent R8 model, housing a 5,2-litre engine, a seven-speed DSG transmission, and four-wheel drive. Additional features include a substantial top-hung rear wing, centre lock wheels, custom doors, fenders, rocker panels, and a roll cage, all hinting at formidable power outputs. Reportedly limited to 100 units, this Audi could potentially serve as the final edition of the R8. The fact that it is road-legal solidifies its status as a road-going version of the R8 GT3 Evo 2 introduced in 2022.
In the landscape of high-performance sports cars, it is yet to be determined how this Audi will compete with its 5,2-litre competitors. Notably, it could potentially rival purpose-built models like the Ford Mustang GTD, which boasts a 5,2-liter supercharged V8 producing nearly 600 kW of power. Specific details about Audi remain scarce, and further information is eagerly anticipated, shedding light on Audi’s strategy as they bid farewell to the iconic R8 model once more.
