Jeep India is readying the launch of its most anticipated product, the Jeep Meridian three-row SUV by mid-2022, with more details to come in on March 29, as the American carmaker will reveal further details of the 7-seater car. However, since this is a premium product from the carmaker, select dealers have commenced with the pre-bookings for the Jeep Meridian three-row at a token amount of ₹ 50,000, however, Jeep has not officially initiated any such instruction. The Jeep Meridian is the extended wheelbase version of the Jeep Compass and will accommodate three-rows and 6/7 seats as it will compete with the likes of Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Mahindra Alturas G4, Isuzu MU-X, and the Kia Carnival in the premium three-row segment.
Jeep Meridian 7-seater SUV is based on the same Compass platform.
The heart of the Jeep Meridian will feature three powertrains with two trims. So, at launch, the Meridian will be equipped with the Jeep Compass sourced 2.0-litre Multi-jet diesel unit that produces 170 bhp and 350 Nm paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox and 4×2 system, or 9-speed automatic transmission with either 4×2 or 4×4 system. However, the gear ratios will be slightly tuned to offset the extra kilos. The second diesel engine could possibly be the 2.4-litre Tigershark 4-cylinder naturally aspirated MultiAir II diesel engine, sourced from Chrysler, tuned to churn out 184 bhp @ 6,400 rpm and 243 Nm @ 4,000 rpm, mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The third powertrain, which will be introduced at a later stage, could be a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol motor sourced from the Jeep Renegade. This motor can produce 185 bhp and 270 Nm of peak torque.
Speaking of design, the Jeep Meridian three-row SUV carries forward several design elements from its younger sibling, and so, like the Jeep Compass, the Meridian will feature the company’s signature seven-slat grille, LED headlamps, while adding a new front bumper with integrated LED DRLs, and LED fog lamps. Moreover, the big SUV will also feature integrated roof rails and a panoramic sunroof. It will sit on a set of 17-inch alloy wheels with the option to choose 18-inch alloys as well. The rear of the Jeep Meridian 7-seater SUV gets horizontally positioned LED taillights, rear wiper and washer, an integrated spoiler, a boot-lid mounted number plate recess, and a rear bumper with reflectors.
Jeep Meridian will feature three rows for 6/7 persons.
On the inside, expect Jeep to heighten the premium quotient with high-quality stitching for the dashboard as well as the upholstery with generous use of premium soft-touch materials. The Meridian three-row SUV will feature a 10.1-inch touchscreen display with U-Connect 5 with connected car features such as remote commands, geofence, OTA updates, Find My Jeep, towing notification. There is also a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster on offer. The second and third rows get individual aircon vents as well as individual USB slots with fast charging capability.
