Jeep has officially released the teaser of the upcoming Jeep Meridian SUV in India. The teaser also confirms the ‘Meridian’ name for the upcoming 7-seater SUV.
While the teaser shows the Jeep Meridian 7-seater SUV, most of the exterior details of the SUV is under heavy camouflage.
Speaking about the Jeep Meridian, the SUV is the seven-seater version of the Jeep’s most popular 5-seater compact SUV, the Jeep Compass, and it was first launched in the South American market as the ‘Jeep Commander’.
From the teaser unveiled by Jeep, the upcoming Jeep Meridian looks very similar to the newly facelifted Jeep compass. Moreover, there are subtle changes to differentiate both models such as sleeker-looking headlamps. However, the teaser video does not reveal the interiors of the upcoming Jeep Meridian.
However, since the Jeep Meridian is a larger vehicle that will be positioned above the Jeep Compass in India, it is safe to expect the US-based company to make the interior more upmarket to justify the ‘premium’ price tag.
In the Jeep Commander in South American markets, the leather on the dashboard is replaced by more premium feeling Suede trim and the seats come wrapped in more premium feeling brown leather and suede upholstery. In addition to these changes, the Jeep Commander also gets rose gold accents on the lower centre console.
Apart from this, the Jeep Commander also gets 60:40 ratio split seats in the middle-row for easy access to the third-row seating.
In terms of features, the upcoming Jeep Meridian is more likely to come with features such as a large 10.25-inch digital drivers display, a floating 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, steering-mounted controls, cruise control and many more.
In terms of safety, the upcoming Jeep Meridian will be packed with all the necessary safety features such as multiple airbags, ABS, EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electric parking brake, ESC, traction control, TPMS and many more.
However, there is also a possibility that Jeep could add Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, etc.
The Jeep Meridian is most likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine with a 48-V mild-hybrid system. This engine is expected to produce around 200bhp of power and come mated to Jeep’s tried-and-tested 9-speed automatic transmission.
Apart from that, Jeep Meridian is expected to come with 6-seater and 7-seater configurations and come with an AWD system as standard.
Thoughts About The Upcoming Jeep Meridian
We expect Jeep Meridian to come with a more luxurious interior compared to the Jeep Compass SUV sold in India. Moreover, the Jeep Meridian will be a decent performer for Jeep in India.
