Jeep has officially revealed the Indian-spec Jeep Meridian SUV in India. According to sources, Jeep will launch the 7-seater Meridian SUV before May 2022.
Speaking about the Jeep Meridian, the SUV is the 7-seater version of the Jeep Compass SUV and has been under development for almost 2 years now.
The 7-seater SUV first made its global debut in the South American market as ‘Jeep Commander’. However, the US brand decided not to use the ‘Commander’ moniker in India to avoid legal discrepancy with Mahindra.
In India, the test mules carrying heavy camouflage have been routinely photographed by automotive enthusiasts in the country and now Jeep has officially revealed the images of the much-awaited Jeep Meridian SUV in India.
Starting with the design, the Jeep Meridian 7-seater SUV looks a lot more premium than the 5-seater Jeep Compass SUV, thanks to its extended wheelbase over the Jeep Compass. Also, the Jeep Meridian sports slightly larger rear doors for easier ingress and egress for 2nd & 3rd-row passengers.
From the front, the Jeep Meridian sports a pair of rectangular headlamps with LED projectors and integrated DRLs. Moreover, these headlights are connected by Jeep’s signature 7-slat grille.
Apart from that, the front bumpers are also different to the Jeep Compass with its single large air dam and a full-width chrome bar that neatly divides the front bumper. Moreover, the lower half of the front bumper is finished in black to aid the rugged looks of the SUV.
Also, Jeep has partially revealed the interior of the upcoming Jeep Meridian, and from the officially revealed pictures, the interior of Jeep Meridian looks a bit more upmarket than the Jeep Compass with its brown leather interior.
In comparison to the Jeep Commander in South American markets, the leather on the dashboard of the Jeep Compass has been replaced by a more premium feeling Suede trim and the seats come wrapped in brown leather and suede upholstery. In addition to these changes, the Jeep Commander also gets premium-feeling rose gold accents on the centre console.
In terms of features, the upcoming 2022 Jeep Meridian will come with a host of new features such as dual-zone climate control, a large panoramic sunroof, multicolour ambient lighting, steering-mounted controls, a large 10.25-inch digital drivers display, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control and many more.
In terms of safety, we expect Jeep Meridian to come with all the necessary safety features such as ABS, EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electric parking brake, electronic stability control (ESC), multiple airbags, traction control (TC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and many more.
Apart from that, there is a high possibility that the top-end variant of the upcoming Jeep Meridian will feature Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, and a few more.
The Jeep Meridian is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This engine is expected to produce around 200bhp of power and 400Nm of peak torque.
Apart from that, this engine will be paired with Jeep’s tried-and-tested 9-speed automatic transmission.
Thoughts About The Upcoming Jeep Meridian
The Jeep Meridian looks a lot more premium and luxurious than the Jeep Compass. That being said, we expect the upcoming Jeep Meridian to spice up the premium 7-seater SUV segment in India.
