Jeep India’s 2022 SUV blitzkrieg
The Stellantis Group is bracing for a blockbuster 2022 for the Jeep brand in India and boy it has plans! It is common knowledge at this point that three Jeep SUVs will be launched in India this year. We also knew Jeep Meridian, Jeep Compass Trailhawk, and Jeep Grand Cherokee are the new Jeep SUVs that will become available for retail here. That had largely been the extent of the knowledge and information available to the market till today: the automotive group recently gave us a download of its Jeep SUV launch plans for India and some more interesting details about the individual SUVs in question.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk
The first SUV of the lot will actually serve to mark the return of an SUV that was previously offered in India: the Jeep Compass Trailhawk. Scheduled to be launched in India in March 2022, the new Compass Trailhawk will come equipped two Jeep 4×4 systems and Selec-Terrain traction management systems. Further fortifying the SUV’s off-roading credentials will be provisions such as factory lift suspension, standard four metallic skid plates and a Jeep signature red rear tow hook, 30-degree approach angle, 24-degree breakover angle, 34-degree departure angle, up to 19 inches of water fording, etc.
Jeep assures the Compass Trailhawk’s interior will include ample provisions and upgrades as compared to the last model. The list of this upcoming Jeep SUV’s provisions will include 2x storage, new 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 center stack display, and new 10.25-inch frameless full-color thin-film transistor (TFT) digital cluster.
Jeep Meridian 7 seater SUV
Meridian, which will mark the automaker’s foray into India’s 7 seater SUV market, promises to deliver trademark Jeep off-road capability along with a premium interior and an abundance of connected features. The made in India Jeep SUV will feature more than 80 per cent localisation; its production at the company’s manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon, Pune will commence later this year — in May, to be precise.
While the company did not reveal Jeep Meridian’s specs or many other details, Jeep did say that this upcoming SUV in India will be the first in its segment to come equipped with independent front and rear suspension. 2022 Jeep Meridian will also deliver “best-in-class acceleration,” thanks to the optimized power-to-weight ratio. Oh and Jeep Meridian SUV in India will be available with a choice between three engine options and two trims offered in diesel only.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Another critical offering in the brand’s line-up for India this year is the made-in-India Jeep Grand Cherokee. The second Jeep SUV scheduled to be launched here this year, the all-new Grand Cherokee SUV will be underpinned by an all-new platform, receive an “all-new exterior design, and all-new interior”. The list of 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s features will include four driving modes, leather interior, co-passenger interactive screen, Head Up Display (HUD), power lift gate, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, etc.
As for the powertrain, Jeep India will offer the Grand Cherokee with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which will be paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Other notable provisions will include the Quadra-Trac I 4×4 system and the Selec-Terrain traction management system.
It may also be interesting to note that India is the only market outside North America where the all-new Grand Cherokee is assembled.
