Jeep India has launched the Compass Tralhawk in the Indian market. It is now based on the Compass Facelift that the manufacturer launched last year. The Compass Trailhawk is priced at Rs. 30.72 lakhs ex-showroom.
The design of the Compass Trailhawk has been updated. It gets a few more upgrades over the regular Compass Facelift. It gets a slightly different grille, tweaked LED projector headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps, a decal on the hood and a visible tow hook at the rear finished in red colour. There are also 17-inch wheels that have a new design and are wrapped in 225/60 R17 Falken Wildpeaks all-terrain tyres. Moreover, there are Trailrated badges on the front fenders.
The front and rear bumpers have been revised. So, now they provide a better approach angle of 30 degrees and a better departure angle of 34 degrees. So, the cosmetic changes are functional also. Jeep has also removed the front tow hooks because of pedestrian safety norms.
The cabin of the Compass Trailhawk is very familiar to the Compass Facelift. The interior is now all-black with red stitching and the seats getting Trailhawk embossing. But the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster stays the same. Other features include a wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, multi-function steering wheel, electric tailgate, push-button to start/stop the engine etc. There is also a 360-degree parking camera and rain-sensing wipers. This time you also get an electric adjustment for front seats, the previous generation of Compass Trailhawk did not offer this feature.
Jeep has also added 25 mm to the ground clearance by lifting the suspension of the Compass Trailhawk. Because the SUV is lifted and the air intake has been repositioned, the water wading capability has also been increased to 483 mm. The Compass Trailhawk has four off-road modes. There is Auto, Snow, Sand/Mud and an additional Rock mode. You also get a low-range gearbox, Dynamic Steering Torque, 4-wheel drive lock, Hill Descent Control and Hill Hold Control also.
The engine and transmission are the same as the Compass Facelift. So, it comes with a 2.0-litre Multijet 2 diesel engine that produces 170 PS of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. It gets mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and there is no manual transmission on offer. Trailhawk variant gets four-wheel drive and Select Terrain system as standard.
The regular Compass is also offered with a petrol engine. It is a 1.4-litre engine that has been turbocharged. It produces 163 hp of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. It is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It is offered only as a 4×2 whereas the diesel engine is also offered as a 4×2. The diesel engine is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox but the 4×4 system is reserved only for the automatic transmission.
The regular Compass is currently the most affordable vehicle that Jeep sells in India. It starts from Rs. 17.79 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 29.34 lakhs ex-showroom. It has to compete against MG Hector, Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV700, Volkswagen Tiguan and Hyundai Tucson.
