The MG ZS EV is quite popular in India and another EV may join the electric SUV as part of the brand’s electric line up
The British arm of MG, MG Motor UK, has teased a video of an upcoming car, which will go on the production floors in Q4 2022. If reports are to be believed, this new car will be the next noteworthy offering from MG in the electric mobility space. MG Motor UK has hinted that this new fully-electric car measures 4,300mm in length, and going by the teaser video, it is speculated to be a 4.3-metre long hatchback.
What is MG 4 EV?
The flat rear profile of the upcoming car showcased in the teaser video indicates that the upcoming vehicle will be a hatchback and not an SUV. MG already has the ZS EV in the premium compact crossover EV category, which more or less measures close to the 4.3-metre mark. This new car is expected to be called MG 4 and will be a spiritual, new-age successor of the MG 3 hatchback.
The car also gets a light-bar in the rear!
Developed for the UK market, the new MG 4 electric hatchbacks will enter into a newly formed segment of fully-electric hatchbacks. Currently, this segment is gaining popularity in entire Europe, with cars like Nissan Leaf, Kia e-Niro, Opel Astra-e, Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born already enjoying good popularity. MG Motor UK wants to mark its presence with the MG 4 in this growing category.
What’s visible in the teaser image?
But the design of the alloy wheels stand out
Apart from the indication that it’s a hatchback, the teaser also shows that the new electric vehicle gets a wraparound tail light bar, gloss black roof and rearview mirrors, and black plastic cladding. A close-up of the tyre shows that it will get 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
Expected powertrain details
It is likely to get a crossover design
While there are no details regarding the powertrain of this upcoming electric vehicle from MG Motor the UK, it is expected to be derived from that of the current ZS EV. Already on sale in the UK, the new MG ZS EV comes with a front-mounted electric motor, which produces a peak power output of 156 PS and a peak torque output of 279 Nm. It also has a 72.6 kWh lithium-ion battery which claims a WLTP-rated maximum driving range of 439 km.
The glimpses of the vehicle in the video indicates that it will look interesting
