We take you through the steps required to successfully change a headlight bulb on a Mazda BT-50 (2007 – 2020).
Basic maintenance on your Mazda BT-50 is not always the task of the agents. You’ll be able to service and maintain certain aspects of your BT-50 yourself, saving you valuable money in the process.
Changing out a blown headlight bulb is one of those tasks that will only take a few minutes and doesn’t even require any tools. It’s a great place to start if you’ve never worked on a car before. The sense of accomplishment may even get you excited to tackle a few other items on your BT-50 that require attention.
This guide will show you how to change the bulb on both the first and second-generation Mazda BT-50 as the principle remains the same. Seeing as the Mazda BT-50 is based on the Ford Ranger, this guide will help Ranger owners too.
You will need:
New headlight bulbs – Type H4 (x2)
A soft cloth
Gloves (if you’d like)
How to:
Step 1: Open the bonnet using the interior catch, and secure in place with the provided stay.
Step 2: Locate the rear of the headlight housing.
Step 3: Pinch the electrical connector and pull away from the housing.
Step 4: Remove the rubber boot by pulling it away from the housing using the supplied tabs.
Step 5: Pinch the retaining spring to release the bulb.
Step 6: Pull out the blown blub.
Step 7: Insert a new bulb, taking care not to touch the glass part of the bulb. The cloth may help. Ensure you have the right orientation, the bulb will only fit in one way. Rotate the bulb until it seats properly.
Step 8: Reinstall the retaining clip.
Step 9: Reinstall the rubber boot and electrical connector.
Step 10: Repeat for the other side (so that you have matching headlights) and test the lights.
