Life is full of winning pairings such as fish and chips, jelly and ice cream, bread and butter. It’s the same story for the delicious combination of a well-sorted hot hatchback and a British B-road. The latest Ford Focus ST is amongst the best, but news from Mountune suggests that even more performance can be squeezed from the standard car.
The new M330 upgrade involves recalibrating the car’s ECU inanition to a high-flow panel air filter. This delivers 49bhp and 95Nm more torque than a regular Focus ST. That means the turbocharged 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine under the bonnet now boasts a total output of 325bhp and 515Nm torque. No 0-62 sprint times have been announced as of yet, but it’s safe bet that Mountune has improved on the factory car’s 5.7 seconds.
In addition to a boost in peak performance, the M330 upgrade also allows for ‘flat-shifts’ in a similar fashion to the Focus ST’s little brother, the Fiesta ST. No lifting for gear changes ensures even faster cog-swapping than usual. Launch Control has also been improved, as has the noise the car makes in Sport and Track modes.
As we’re in 2020, Mountune are embracing the wonders of modern technology with their ‘mTune SMARTflash’ app. This handy tool allows users to upgrade to the latest Mountune calibrations without even leaving their driveway. It connects via a Bluetooth OBD adaptor and negates the need to head to Mountune if you fancy a different setup.
Mountune are known for their intensively developed performance upgrades. Each new component is rigorously tested to ensure its longevity in a similar manor to car manufacturers.
The M330 upgrade is available now at a cost of £599.
