The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday it added a 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 to its lot. The 650-hp supercar was acquired through an asset forfeiture seizure from a suspect facing felony drug charges.
“No taxpayer dollars were used to fund this vehicle,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post. “This vehicle will be used to continue with community engagement like we’ve never seen before and for the recruitment of the future leaders of tomorrow.”
In order to properly play the part of a local police car, the C7 Z06 has been outfitted with the emergency lights and a unique Escambia County livery. Its wrap features the high-flying Blue Angels, who are based in Pensacola, and also depicts the arrival of Don Tristan de Luna, a Spanish conquistador who arrived in the region in 1599.
The sheriff’s office says this Corvette will not be used for local pursuits, nor will it serve to arrest anyone. The car is instead aimed at bringing the community and the department closer together.
Thanks to a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine, the C7 generation Z06 is capable of producing 650 hp and 650 lb ft of torque, and has a supercar-rivaling top speed of 205 mph. Impressive? Sure. But it doesn’t sound like it’ll be using those abilities in any police chases any time soon.
