The market introduction of the electric crossover model took on progressively more solid forms after the US business Fisker outsourced the manufacturing of the Ocean to the Graz-based contract manufacturer Magna Steyr. Henrik Fisker, the company’s CEO, debuted the production version at the LA Auto Show in November 2021. And, at least in the two higher-end variants, it becomes quite strong.
Henrik Fisker described the Ocean as a sporty and driver-oriented electric SUV during the launch, with its wide stance on optional 22-inch wheels composed of aluminum and recycled carbon fiber. Magna, a contract manufacturer, provides the electric drive platform. The entirely electric, networked driving train is dubbed “EtelligentReach” by Magna. Two electric motors, inverters, and gearboxes, as well as customized software, make up the drive system, which maximizes the vehicle’s range and driving characteristics.
The Fisker Ocean will be offered in three different equipment configurations. Fisker includes a 275 horsepower engine on the front axle in the entry-level Sport model, which starts at US $ 37,499 (without subsidies) (front-wheel drive). It should have a maximum range of 250 miles (402 kilometers).
The Ocean Sport is touted to go from zero to 60 miles per hour (95.56 kilometers per hour) in 6.9 seconds. The Ultra version is substantially more costly, starting at $ 50,000. (44,116 euros).
The Ocean Ultra, which is powered by two electric motors and has torque vectoring, then pushes over all four wheels, giving it 540 horsepower and a 340-mile range (547 kilometers). The usual sprint time is reduced to 3.9 seconds, according to the manufacturer.
The Extreme line adds ten horsepower and 10 miles of range to the base model, which costs $ 68,999. The Ocean Extreme, according to Fisker, reaches 60 mph in under 3.6 seconds. Is the nearly 17,000-euro extra justified? Even if the Ocean cut to extremes has one or the other equipment advantage over the Ultra version, it’s debatable.
With its big grill and slim headlamp units, the Fisker Ocean stands out from the crowd. In the front, a modest, rather high radar system is hidden behind glass. The electric SUV has a powerful, athletic appearance thanks to its wide wheel arches. Fisker comes standard with 20-inch wheels, however 22-inch wheels are available for an extra fee. The line of the side window climbs towards the C-pillar. The indicators are integrated into the C-pillar.
An eco-friendly decor with a California vibe
Managing director Fisker proudly stated during the launch that the Ocean’s interior was partially composed of recyclable materials. The carpets are made from recycled plastic bottles, discarded T-shirts, and even marine fishing nets, according to the producer. Fisker is certain that this has no impact on the premium vehicle’s interior quality.
Fisker has given the Ocean extra specific functionalities in addition to a solar roof that is meant to supply electricity for a range of up to 1,600 kilometers per year. There’s the California mode, for example: All of the windows, including the solar sky roof and back window, may be opened with a single push of a button. The open-air sensation is aided by the two small doggy windows above the rear fenders.
Fisker calls it that because it allows four-legged passengers in the back to enjoy some fresh air.
Fisker highlights the colossal 17.1-inch infotainment display as a standout feature. It’s mounted vertically on the dashboard in the standard position, comparable to the Mustang Mach E. The screen flips horizontally and transforms to “Hollywood mode” when a button is pressed. If you want to view movies or play video games while driving, this is a great feature.

What was previously known: A head-up display and a 9.8-inch digital cockpit provide information to the driver. Furthermore, the E-SUV should provide ample capacity for passengers. The capacity of the trunk ranges from 566 to 1,274 liters. Optional features include roof rails and a trailer connector. The Fisker Ocean Sport has a maximum trailer weight of 1,090 kilograms, while the Ocean Ultra and Extreme each have a maximum trailer load of 1,815 kilos for electric cars.
There are two distinct battery ideas.
Fisker announced that two separate technologies are employed in the batteries of the 4.78 meter long, 1.99 meter wide, and 1.63 meter high Ocean: While the Ocean Sport employs a lithium iron phosphate battery (LFP Battery), the Ultra and Extreme variants use rechargeable lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt oxides (NMC batteries) batteries. The batteries are made by CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology), China’s leading lithium-ion battery producer.
Fisker offers cutting-edge technology.
According to the CEO, the Ocean will be available to consumers in November 2022, however some cars may be delivered sooner. When the time comes, the vehicle will be equipped with “quite modern” technology.
According to Fisker, the business has shortened the typical development period from three and a half to four years to less than two and a half years. That is why during the market debut, everything is fresh new. Although the exhibition car at the LA Auto Show is still a prototype, it is already running on the completed Magna-Alu platform.
The model is exclusively available for purchase in the United States. Fisker, on the other hand, is concentrating on a flexible subscription strategy that allows for yearly mileages of up to 30,000 miles. Fisker charges a monthly rental price of $ 379, which includes maintenance and servicing, after a one-time payment of $ 2,999.
The lease model should be able to be terminated on a monthly basis. A concierge service system for personal service and car maintenance is also being developed by the corporation. With the Ocean, Fisker is definitely aiming at Tesla’s Model Y competition.
The debut of the Fisker E-Motion sports vehicle has been postponed due to the introduction of the electric SUV in 2022. Fisker plans to install a solid-state battery made in partnership with a cooperation partner for the first time. It should take five to ten minutes to charge.
Fisker is also working on a version of the Ocean that will be able to go off-road. Teaser images from a few months ago revealed a considerably more robust E-SUV, dubbed Force-E in this iteration. Underneath the coarse tires are wider wheel arches. There’s also a spare wheel on the roof rack. In some depictions, solar panels are mounted on the top, and the spare wheel is housed in the front hood. A fresh water tank is also present. Other e-cars need be refueled using an extra charging outlet. Ram bars and extra headlamps complete the Force-E package.
The images were accompanied by a hint from Fisker that the Ocean Force-E may be useful to assistance groups. An SUV that is oil (gasoline) independent might potentially be beneficial to the military.
