The Ghibli is Maserati's contender in the executive sedan segment. And as can be expected from an Italian marque, a stylish one at that. Find out more about the Maserati Ghibli as we list everything we think you should know about the model.
In this article:
Is the Maserati Ghibli a good car?
The Ghibli range, like most sedans, offers a lot of practicality with seating for up to five occupants and a large boot. Customers can also choose between a variety of powertrain configurations that will suit their needs, from a more efficient hybrid unit all the way up to a fire-breathing V8. We think the Ghibli is indeed a good car.
Who is the Maserati Ghibli a good car for?
The Maserati Ghibli is a good car for mature individuals that appreciate the finer things in life but at the same time might want some excitement on their route. While the Ghibli retains the sporty character associated with the brand, it is also practical and comfortable and could easily execute the duties of a family vehicle.
Is the Maserati Ghibli a good first car?
If the price tag is not a hurdle for a first-time car buyer, the Italian sedan will make for a good first car with its host of driver assistant systems. We do recommend the GT Hybrid derivative for first-time drivers as it is more forgiving with throttle inputs.
Is the Maserati Ghibli a good family car?
Offering no less than seven airbags, ISOfix anchor points and a 500-litre boot, the Ghibli will most certainly make for a good family vehicle. That is if you don’t mind the kids dirtying or scratching the Italian leather seats.
Is there a Hybrid Maserati Ghibli?
The Italian marque does offer a hybrid derivative of the Ghibli. Under the bonnet features a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo petrol with an electric motor which is claimed to return an average fuel consumption figure of 7.5 L/100 km while still producing 243 kW and 450 Nm of torque.

What’s it like to drive?
Reviewer’s opinion
Now a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo petrol doesn’t sound very promising, it sounds pretty ordinary. But Maserati applied some tricks to this specific arrangement. For starters, they added a 48-volt, mild-hybrid system which adds extra power directly to the crankshaft by means of a belt and it powers an E-Booster, basically an electric turbo that speeds up in a split second while the main turbo is still busy building boost. So sharpens the throttle response, it sharpens the boost response and makes this smallish engine in a large car, act like something much much more potent than it actually is.

What is the Maserati Ghibli like inside?
As one would expect with a model in this price segment, the Maserati Ghibli is fitted with luxurious appointments throughout the cabin. Based on the trim level selected, customers can expect a variety of trim inlays from carbon fibre to glossy wood. Leather is utilised in various other areas other than the seats and steering wheel for a more upmarket result. The latest Ghibli iterations also get an updated infotainment system which is better in performance and more intuitive to users. The large exterior dimensions also result in a large cabin which provides more head-, shoulder- and legroom.
Style
As for the styling, the model remains similar to the original that was introduced in 2013, however, with recent iterations seeing the front and rear updated. On certain derivatives, customers will find a black gloss grille insert while at the rear of the vehicle, three-dimensional taillamps incorporating the “boomerang” design features.
