Is the Ford Focus ST (2015-2018) a good car?
The last generation Ford Focus ST is from the model-year facelift 2015-2018, which refined the driving dynamics and technology that Ford offered at the time. Pair that with updated styling both inside and out and you have quite a nice hot hatch. Unfortunately, the Ford Focus range has been pulled from the South African market but there are plenty of good examples floating about on the AutoTrader website.
Who is the Ford Focus ST (2015-2018) a good car for?
The Ford Focus ST is a good car for someone who wants an alternative to the Volkswagen Golf GTI. A hot hatchback with daily usage in mind. Something you can take the kids to school in, and then proceed to take the meandering backroads to the office.
Is the Ford Focus ST (2015-2018) a good first car?
No, the Ford Focus ST will not make a good first car. This is a performance vehicle so that garners a higher maintenance cost and insurance cost and the performance might be too much to handle for inexperienced drivers.

“For those that still want to feel in control, those who want to be an intrinsic part of going fast, the ST is the one to clammer for.”

What is the Ford Focus ST (2015-2018) like inside?
Ford’s intention with this facelift of the Focus ST was a cockpit-style cabin. They aimed for more of an intuitive layout with a clearer view of key components like the instrument cluster, radio, aircon controls and more while having fewer buttons in the cabin. Naturally, because this is a hot hatchback, you’ll find bucket seats and even on the dash, a set of gauges to give you readings on boost pressure, oil temperature and oil pressure too. It taps into the inner boy racer.
Style
Compared to the pre-facelift Focus ST, the facelift ST dials up the sportier aggression factor with a lower yet wider stance and a front fascia with slim headlamps. On top of that, you can have a sports body kit featuring body-coloured side skirts, a diffuser and a redesigned boot spoiler. Wrapping all up is the generation specific hexagonal exhaust tip.
Tech features
- Boost, oil temperature & oil pressure gauges.
- Ford SYNC 2 Connectivity system.
- Adaptive front lighting.
