- Everything you need to know about the Ford Fiesta ST (2013-2019)
The compact yet agile pocket rocket, the Ford Fiesta ST will blow your socks off. Although no longer sold in South Africa, there are still a few good examples floating about. Here's everything you need to know about this hot hatch!
What is the Ford Fiesta ST like to drive?
Is the Ford Fiesta ST a good car?
The sixth generation Ford Fiesta was considered a favourite for South Africans with the introduction of Ford’s critically acclaimed EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engines. Not only that, we saw the arrival of the hotly anticipated at the time and still well-received Fiesta ST. Excellent power and an agile chassis made it a firm favourite in the local hot hatch space.
Who is the Ford Fiesta ST a good car for?
The Ford Fiesta ST is a good car for someone who wants a sports car with some personality to it, youthful boy racer looks and performance to match. It’s definitely a vehicle that appeals to the mid-20s demographic.
Is the Ford Fiesta ST a good first car?
While the Fiesta ST would be a dream for a first car, it’s not suitable for new drivers. The car is simply too powerful in the hands of a first-time driver and the chassis behaviour can catch a first-time driver off guard. Not only that, but let’s not talk about the potential insurance costs.
Is the Ford Fiesta ST a good family car?
Unfortunately, the ST wouldn’t make for a good family car due to its 3-Door format, making it impractical for family usage. However, the boot space is decently sized at 276-litres.
Is there a Hybrid Ford Fiesta ST?
There was no hybrid version of the Ford Fiesta ST sold in South Africa.

What is the Ford Fiesta ST like inside?
This generation of Ford design opted more for futuristic looks with abstract yet sharp shapes visible throughout the cabin. One of the standout features though would be the heavily bolstered Recaro bucket seats. That’s not the only thing showing that this vehicle is geared for sports driving, a thick steering wheel rim, sports pedals and weighted gear knob find their place here in the Fiesta ST’s cabin.
Style
The Ford Fiesta ST is sporty but errs more on the understated side. The ST more or less retains the original shape of the normal Fiesta bar the redesigned front and rear bumpers plus a large roof spoiler. The quite prominent air dam with ‘ST’ badging on the front bumper is the first giveaway that we have a cheeky hot hatch on our hands and noticeably no chrome around the car. Rounding it all up are the 17-inch 5-spoke wheels.
