2013 Global Ford Fiesta Titanium Ownership Review

This is a detailed ownership Review of our 2013 Global Ford Fiesta Titanium.

Having completed 10+ Years of glorious and cherished ownership of our beloved 2013 global Ford Fiesta in January this year, I thought now would be the right time to discuss our ownership of this fabulous Car. This Car was way ahead of its time in 2013 with Bluetooth Connectivity on the ICE, Voice-activation for ICE and climate control which is what impressed my daughter who joined us for the Test Drive arranged by Cauvery Ford, Footwell Lamps for the Front Passengers, ORVM’s Auto Fold/Unfold upon Door Lock/Unlock etc. This is a fairly long post.

PMS

Regular Maintenance involving Engine Oil Change, Oil/Air Filter, and Cabin Filter cleaning/Replacement religiously followed and implemented every 10,000 km. / 1 Year per Ford specifications. All PMS were carried out initially at Cauvery Ford, Magadi Road, from where our Purchase was made, thereafter Metro Ford, Yeshwanthpur (before it became KIA, Yeshwanthpur), and finally now PPS, Yelahanka. The Service Bills have usually been in the range of `5,500 to `9,000 aside a few instances where a change of major parts was required which is when the Bill may have gone up to 20,000. An instance was the very last PMS carried out where, per Ford specifications, the Timing Chain/Belt had to be replaced at about 1,00,000 km. (I am unable to recollect the exact nomenclature of the part. It is mentioned in the Invoice Bill). The in-city mileage is about 13-15 km/l in Bengaluru. The highway figures, even after 10 years are between 19-21 km/l with 5 passengers & a full complement of luggage in the Boot when doing speeds between 90-120 km/h. All the Mileage Figures are as per Tankfull to Tankfull method with full-time A/c.

Parts Replaced:

  1. Faulty Door locks (all 4 Doors) replaced under Warranty as per Ford’s Recall.
  2. Faulty Wheel Lugnuts replaced (all 4 Wheels) as I was unable to install the Stepney, after a Puncture as the Lugnuts were just slipping despite my using the Ford supplied Toolkit. Paid about `2,000 at Metro Ford, Yeshwanthpur. I have shared my experience on this in a separate post.
  3. Engine Coolant Box/Bottle replaced as the same was leaking at Metro Ford, Yeshwanthpur in 2014. Not able to remember the cost.
  4. Rear Glass (Rear Windscreen/Windshield) and Roof were damaged due to a Tree Fall during Heavy Rains in Bengaluru in 2017. The Car was Parked at our Gate outside our House. The Roof only had minor Dents that were barely visible. However, the rear glass had to be replaced. The Parts & Painting of the Roof took 3 Days and the Insurance, through Bharti AXA, took 2 Days. Total Bill about `23,000. That was the Bad News; the Good News any other Car, in that same situation, would have been a total write-off. The works were carried out at Cauvery Ford, Magadi Road.
  5. Left Headlight replaced, in 2022, and Bonnet repainted due to minor shunt. Again Insurance was claimed through ICICI Lombard. The Part took 2 Days and the Insurance 1 Day. The works were carried out at PPS, Yelahanka.
  6. Batteries replaced twice since Purchase of the Vehicle. Both Batteries lasted about 4+ Years & both were Ford-branded. The Car is now running on its 3rd Battery, again Ford Branded sourced from PPS, Yelahanka.
  7. Tyres was replaced twice. The Car came with Goodyear Eagle (Made in Germany) Tyres. Our Trusted Tyre Specialist, Shankar Tyres (Goodyear Dealer), on New BEL Road suggested to not swap those Tyres and to run the same for about 30,000 to 35,000 km. when I approached him with the intent to change the Tyres when the Car was new in 2013. He mentioned that those Tyres have a short lifespan but provide impeccable grip. And he was right. The 2nd set was from Yokohama Earth1 and lasted for almost 55,000 + km purchased from Shankar Tyres. The 2 earlier Tyres were 195/55. The current set (3rd set) Goodyear Assurance 195/65 was procured during the 2nd wave of Covid from PPS, Yelahanka. Since no stocks were available anywhere, had to go for them. The Tyres have served well except that, being slightly oversized, they tend to slightly scrape the wheel well when going over slightly larger potholes or Bangalore’s famous Speed breakers, only if we do not slow down. The Car has currently clocked about 1,07,600 km.
  8. Replaced the Left Rear Wheel bearing along with the Rear Shock Absorbers. This time, on my wife’s insistence, decided to get the job done at a good FNG. Heard good reviews of Kruthi Car Care & approached them. They assured me that they would Call & let me know on Parts availability. As they did not Call, I tried reaching out but they did not respond. Thereafter, based on my Cousin’s reference, approached Mr Nayaz Pasha who runs MARS Auto on Sanjaynagar Main Road and replaced both the Left Wheel Bearing & Rear Shock Absorbers for about `14,000 inclusive of Labour. Please note that this was my first outing with an FNG for any of our Cars, outside the ASS Network. Turns out he is an ex-MARS employee. Very knowledgeable. For the uninitiated, MARS Auto Enterprises were the leading Maruti ASS in Bengaluru in the Mid-Nineties, with their Facility on Sanjaynagar Main Road, close to the IAF Quarters. I speak from personal experience as we used to get the PMS and other works done for our 1991 Maruti 800 & 1999 Maruti Zen at MARS. The Team never insisted on anything unnecessary. Great Team led by the very Friendly and Knowledgeable, Late Mr. Anil. Unfortunately, after Mr. Anil’s untimely Demise, the Team disintegrated & the Service Levels went down. I started hunting for a Good ASS and settled down with Nexus Motors, 80 Feet Road where our “Highway Cruiser” the 2019 Ertiga gets her PMS. So far the Experience has been good over 3 Marutis, actually 4; 2011 Maruti Alto Vxi, 2009 Maruti Dzire Vxi, 2019 Maruti Ertiga Zxi+ and my Cousin’s 2009/10 Maruti Zen Estilo. I will share my Experience with the Ertiga Ownership on a separate post.
  9. Wiper Blades replaced twice. This Car uses the Frameless Wipers, priced at about `1600 for the set. Both sets are sourced from Ford ASS.
  10. AC Gas Refilled/Recharged after 10 Years for about `1800.
