The electric successor to the Nissan Micra: CAR’s artist’s impression

Nissan has confirmed that an all-new supermini-sized EV is to join its European range in the years to come, sitting below its Leaf and Ariya EVs. CAR’s artist’s impression above depicts how we expect the all-electric Nissan Micra successor to look at launch in two years’ time, based on insider information.
While the name of the new supermini isn’t confirmed yet, Nissan says it will replace the Micra in the brand’s range – a name that’s been in use for four decades since 1982.
During the 2022 Alliance digital conference, announcing more details on the Alliance 2030 electrification plans for Nissan, Renault and Mitsubishi, Nissan’s COO Ashwani Gupta teased pictures of the new car. From these images, we can see ring-like DRLs front and back, a profile with a floating roof and what looks to be a five-door configuration.
The key to this is the new CMF-B EV platform announced by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. It’s going to underpin the new Renault 5 EV, as well as what results from the ‘4Ever’ teasers laid out by the Renault brand.
New all-electric Nissan Micra successor: what we know
The new electric Nissan baby is expected around 2024-25, priced from around £25,000 in today’s money. The group architecture points to a steel monocoque platform, front-wheel drive and a choice of 40kWh or 52kWh batteries for a range estimated to achieve 250 miles on one charge on the bigger capacity.
‘CMF-B EV is the very first time an EV can compete with an ICE car on price,’ said Renault boss Luca De Meo during the 2022 Alliance digital conference at the end of January 2022.
‘This all-new model will be designed by Nissan and engineered and manufactured by Renault using our new common platform, maximising the use of our Alliance assets,’ adds Gupta. That suggests a profile closely mirroring the Renault 5, as they will likely share door frames and much of the packaging.
More details, including its name, are due to be revealed in time. But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
