Audi has opened reservations for its fully-electric e-tron range in South Africa, with prices starting at R1,990,000 for the Audi e-tron 55 Advanced.
The electric vehicle (EV) line-up comprises five models:
- e-tron 55 SUV
- e-tron Sportback
- e-tron S Sportback
- e-tron GT
- RS e-tron GT
The e-tron models will only be available through 10 national Audi dealerships, with three in Johannesburg, three in Pretoria, two in Cape Town, and two in Durban.
“The ten Audi e-tron dealerships will also be equipped to allow for fast electric vehicle charging and will be accessible to the public,” said Audi South Africa.
“This charging infrastructure ranges from DC 50 to 75kW.”
e-tron 55 SUV and Sportback
The Audi e-tron range in South Africa features a high level of equipment, with the SUV and Sportback models coming with four-zone climate control, electric front seats with heating, a comfort key with sensor-controlled luggage compartment release, matrix LED lights, a Bang and Olufsen sound system, and the MMI navigation plus infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In addition, each model is equipped with adaptive air suspension, lane change and rear traffic assist, a rear-view camera, and the parking aid plus programme that includes all-round parking sensors.
“Standard charging options include the e-tron charging system ‘compact’, household plug type M, industrial plug CEE 32Amps, Mode 3 charging cable for public charging (AC 22kW), on-board charger 11kW (AC), vehicle inlet CCS type 2, and an Audi wall bracket for convenient charging at home,” said Audi.
e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT
The e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT coupes feature an equally high spec, including three-zone climate control, electric front seats with heating, a comfort key with sensor-controlled luggage compartment release, e-tron sports sound, a panoramic sunroof, matrix LED headlights, a Bang and Olufsen sound system, as well as the MMI navigation plus infotainment system.
These models also sport a 360-degree camera system, lane departure warning, side airbags in the front and rear, adaptive air suspension, and a 400-volt boost converter.

Charging accessibility
When buying an Audi e-tron, customers will receive a complementary home check by an approved service provider to assess their charging requirements and determine the necessary upgrades or installations.
Audi said it will also cover the installation of an industrial socket up to the value of R5,000.
“This setup will allow for convenient integration of single-phase power (the most widely available power in South African households) and the Audi e-tron charger, to deliver around 7.2kW of power towards a 100% charge in an estimated 13-hour charging time,” it said.
The company will also offer optional power upgrades through authorised service providers at an additional cost.
In terms of public charging, Audi South Africa has partnered with GridCars to give e-tron customers access to its nationwide charging network.
This currently consists of “more than 280 universal charge point connectors.”
Furthermore, Audi e-tron customers will receive:
- A once-off charging voucher
- Complimentary first-year membership to GridCars
- Complimentary RFID charge card for use with GridCars network

Each purchase includes a 5-year/100,000km Audi Freeway Plan and an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty.
“The Audi e-tron range will be available for sale in the first quarter of 2022,” said Audi South Africa.
