More affordable Warrior coming soon, based on SL rather than PRO-4X but retaining off-road mods
The locally-developed 2022 Nissan Navara Warrior range will broaden to include a more affordable model based on the workhorse SL grade rather than the top-shelf PRO-4X.
The Nissan Navara SL Warrior is yet to be formally revealed, but Nissan is targeting a third-quarter launch.
Pricing and full specification details will be released closer to its market introduction, however Nissan and its local development partner Premcar have released a design sketch showing that the SL retains a dual-cab pick-up body style and key Warrior elements including its higher ground clearance, alloy wheel design, chunkier tyres and unique dual-hooped bull bar with integrated LED light bar.

Flared wheel-arches can also be seen in the image, signalling the inclusion of wider tracks front and rear.
It remains to be seen whether the Navara SL Warrior inherits all or just some of the PRO-4X Warrior’s chassis and suspension upgrades, but Nissan and Premcar have confirmed the newer offering has been subject to the same “exhaustive local testing, tuning and validation program”.
At the very least, buyers should expect to see new springs, dampers and heavy-duty bash plates, but no changes will be made under the bonnet.
Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior
With the standard dual-cab Nissan Navara SL 4×4 pick-up priced from $46,600 plus on-road costs in manual form, we anticipate the Warrior version to start from around $55,000 given the PRO-4X Warrior commands a $9360 premium over the standard Nissan Navara PRO-4X.
The SL Warrior will almost certainly retain the standard SL dual-cab’s cloth upholstery, black interior trim, halogen exterior lighting, manual air-conditioning, 8.0-inch infotainment interface with smartphone mirroring, reversing camera and keyless entry.
A locking rear differential, low-range transfer case, hill descent control, hill start assist and trailer sway control are also a given.
Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior
Nissan Australia will be hoping the new base-spec off-road ute, which is designed to offer a better mix of capability and affordability, will build on the success of the flagship PRO-4X Warrior and the previous N-TREK Warrior.
The PRO-4X Warrior is priced from $67,490 plus ORCs.
“I’m thrilled to announce the expansion of the Warrior program, developed in collaboration with Premcar, which has proven immensely popular in Australia,” said Nissan Australia managing director Adam Paterson.
Nissan Navara PRO-4X Warrior
“With the Navara SL Warrior by Premcar, a new and more accessible entry point will join the Warrior family, ensuring even more customers can experience the world’s toughest Navara for themselves.
“Our collaboration with Premcar is guided by the development of vehicles that are perfectly suited to Australian customers and conditions.”
As with all 4×4 Navara utes, power comes from a 140kW/450Nm 2.3-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic transmission.
