Spanish performance brand ready for Australian launch – with three years of free servicing
Cupra Australia has locked in pricing for its entire three-model portfolio ahead of the Spanish performance brand’s launch here mid-year, with the Cupra Leon hatch set to kick things off from $43,990 plus on-road costs.
As we reported in February, four Cupra Leon variants will make their way Down Under alongside four matching Cupra Formentor crossovers and a solitary Cupra Ateca SUV offering.
The Leon range will consist of the V, VZ (from $52,590), VZe ($59,990) and VZx ($60,990), all of which generally share a common specification level with the only real differences being their power outputs and exterior styling – save for the VZe which is a plug-in hybrid.

Featuring the same variant names, the bigger Formentor is predictably more expensive than its hatch stablemate with pricing starting from $50,690 for the V with 4Drive all-wheel-drive.
The second-tier Formentor VZ starts from $53,790 – some $7200 cheaper than $60,990 VZe plug-in hybrid.
At the top of the range, the 228kW/400Nm VZx can be had from $61,490, making it both the most powerful and most expensive offering within the initial line-up.
Cupra Formentor
Again like the Leon range, the four Cupra Formentor variants all share a common list of standard equipment features, only really varying in their powertrains.
Volkswagen group Australia expects the Formentor to be the top-selling Cupra model Down Under.
Standing as something of an outlier, the Cupra Ateca will be the only Cupra model offered with just a single variant in Australia, in the form of the highly-specified VZx.
Cupra Ateca
Bigger again than the Formentor but slightly down on power, the Ateca VZx will cost $60,990 plus on-road costs.
All inbound Cupras will come with a plethora of optional extras and/or option packs, and every model will be backed by a complimentary three-year servicing offer and a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty.
Cupra Australia product planning boss Jeff Shafer said the new trio would offer “exactly what modern Australians are looking for” in terms of “key performance, technology and design DNA”.
