Gasoline prices are astronomical, and some truck and SUV drivers are feeling the pinch. Consumer Reports recently compiled a list of vehicles that cost over $100 to gas up, and the results are enlightening. The Nissan Titan ranks as the pickup truck that leaves owners paying the most to fill up. Here’s why.

The current national average for regular unleaded gas is $4.12, AAA reports. Gas prices have dropped seven cents since Consumer Reports released its list on March 10, which is good news.
Of the seven vehicles on this list, three are trucks. They are the 2022 Nissan Titan, 2022 Dodge Ram 1500, and 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
The Titan, whose gas tank holds 26 gallons, costs $107 to fill up. The range per tank is 416 miles, so the Titan’s gas mileage isn’t all that impressive. It gets 17 mpg overall — 11 in the city and 24 on the highway.
The Ram 1500 has the same specs but costs considerably less, with an MSRP ranging from $30,400 to $67,600. The Titan’s price range is $38,310 to $60,280, making it much more expensive.
The Silverado costs the least of the trucks on the list. Thanks to the drop in gas prices, it now costs $99 to fill up. It has a gas tank capacity of 24 gallons and gets 408 miles per tank. Its MSRP range is $30,400 to $67,600.
The Nissan Titan held up well to Consumer Reports’ scrutiny
Larger vehicles tend to get poorer gas mileage, and the 2022 Nissan Titan is one of the bigger trucks on the road.
It has a length of 228 inches, a width of 80 inches, a height of 77 inches, a wheelbase of 140 inches, a 5.5-foot-long bed, and a curb weight of 5770 pounds. The 2022 Titan can go from 0 to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds and takes 131 feet to come to a complete stop from 60 in dry conditions. That measurement increases to 143 feet when the roadways are wet.
Though Consumer Reports isn’t thrilled with the Titan — as reflected by its overall score of 55 out of 100 and the fact that it came in fourth place on CR’s list of full-size trucks — it still impresses.
CR’s testers enjoy the V8 engine, decent ride and handling, and quiet cabin. The maximum towing capacity of 9,390 pounds also helped the 2022 Nissan Titan earn a coveted “Recommended” label from Consumer Reports.
How satisfied are owners?
The 2022 Nissan Titan’s interior isn’t upscale, but it’s comfortable. The armrests are padded, the fabric covering the seats is thick, and though some plastic pieces feel cheap, they look good.
Consumer Reports describes the radio as basic, but some owners might find it a pleasant change from the high-tech monsters in other vehicles, which require a learning curve. The infotainment screen is a generous 9.0 inches. Also, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard.
Plentiful driver assists come standard. They include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, and lane-departure warning.
Where things fall apart for the 2022 Nissan Titan are its predicted reliability and predicted owner satisfaction. Only 59% of owners said they would recommend the Nissan Titan. In fact, of 14 trucks in that category, the Titan ranks last in owner satisfaction.
