For EV shoppers, the Audi e-tron is a high-quality and well-liked option. However, it’s not universally liked by everyone. In fact, Consumer Reports is one of the e-tron’s biggest critics, and unsurprisingly, the e-tron earned a pretty low score on the site. With that being said, there is one luxury electric car that Consumer Reports hates more than the e-tron, and it’s the Tesla Model X. Let’s find out why!
Consumer Reports thinks the 2022 Audi e-tron is a medicore luxury EV

According to Consumer Reports, the Audi e-tron is a mixed bag, as it performed very well in some areas but not so well in others. As a result, the Audi all-electric compact SUV has an overall score of 49 out of 100, reflecting its mixed performance.
However, the e-tron really shined on its road test, and it received a score of 90 out of 100 on it. The e-tron received this excellent rating because it not only drives well, but it’s also a very comfortable car. Consumer Reports gave the Audi a 93 out of 100 for its driving experience and an 88 out of 100 for its comfort.
That said, where the 2022 Audi e-tron falls apart is in its predicted reliability rating. It got a 1 out of 5 rating for that, and its 2019 model year, in particular, received some abysmal reliability scores. Elsewhere, the e-tron’s predicted owner satisfaction score was average, at just 3 out of 5, and its value score was 31 out of 100.
Consumer Reports hates the Tesla Model X more than the e-tron
While the Audi e-tron received a bad overall score from Consumer Reports, the Tesla Model X received an even worse score, at just 41 out of 100. The Model X’s review was somewhat similar to the e-tron’s, as the Model X performed well on the road, but it didn’t have a great predicted reliability score. The Model X received a 72 out of 100 on its road test, mostly due to its interior features.
The Model X drives well enough, but compared to the e-tron, its comfort and convenience features weren’t very good. Like the Audi e-tron, the Tesla Model X also scored 1 out of 5 on its predicted reliability score. Worse yet, the Model X has multiple model years that have a poor reliability rating. The 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020 model years received poor reliability ratings from Consumer Reports.
However, the Tesla Model X beat the Audi e-tron in one category. The Model X has a predicted owner satisfaction score of 4 out of 5, as owners of past model years seem to enjoy their Tesla a lot, despite its many reported problems.
CR recommends the 2022 Tesla Model 3 instead
One of the most popular electric vehicles right now, the Tesla Model 3, scored a lot better than the Audi e-tron and Tesla Model X. Consumer Reports gave the Model 3 an overall score of 79 out of 100, which makes it the third-best EV on the site right now. The Model 3’s score is thanks to its good road test score and high predicted owner satisfaction rating. The Tesla model received an 82 out of 100 on its road test and a perfect 5 out of 5 on its predicted owner satisfaction score.
Its predicted reliability score was a bit lower, as it only received an average 3 out of 5 there. On top of that, while the Model 3 had good reliability scores from the 2018 and 2019 model years, the 2020 and 2021 model years received a more average reliability rating. Unfortunately, the Model 3’s predicted reliability rating is more than just a prediction, as there are currently multiple ongoing recalls involving the Model 3 and other Teslas for a variety of reasons.
