Jeep is planning to soon tap into the ever-growing seven-seater segment with its upcoming three-row SUV
Jeep Meridian will arrive in the Indian market to take on the likes of Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster. The new SUV is based on a monocoque platform and will take on the likes of the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan.

For a long time now the American SUV maker is testing the upcoming seven-seater version of the Compass. The latest spotting by T-BHP shows that the Meridian is almost production-ready. The all-new SUV will arrive in the Indian market by the end of this year.
After Jeep began locally assembling cars like Wrangler in the Indian market, the American brand is now working on bringing the all-new seven-seater version of the Compass. India will work as an export hub for the all-new Jeep SUV to many other right-hand-drive markets across the globe.

The Jeep Meridian is essentially the three-row version of the Compass. It is based on a monocoque chassis and is significantly larger than the five-seater Compass.

A few design elements like the front grille and the window line will remind you of the Compass but the Meridian gets its own identity with more rectangular headlamps, a new bumper design a much longer wheelbase and a longer rear overhang as well.

Inside, the international-spec Jeep Commander offers a layered dashboard design. There is a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system as well. The Commander only gets a seven-seat configuration but Jeep will offer a six-seat configuration in the Indian market as well.
What will power the new Jeep Meridian?

Jeep will offer only a diesel engine option with the upcoming SUV. Under the hood, the Meridian will get the same 2.0-litre diesel engine from the Jeep Compass. But it will produce 200 PS in the Meridian compared to 173 PS with Compass.
The rear tail lamps are all-LED units
Jeep will also add a 48V mild-hybrid system that will increase the overall fuel efficiency of the SUV. Jeep will not offer a manual transmission with the upcoming Meridian. Only a 9-speed automatic transmission will be available as a standard feature.

The new Meridian will bring in a slew of customers for Jeep who want to upgrade from the Compass. The upcoming SUV will mainly challenge the Skoda Kodiaq and the Volkswagen Tiguan but since the Meridian comes powered by a diesel unit, it will also take on the likes of MG Gloster and the Toyota Fortuner.
