C8 Corvette Z51 Is the Only Car You Really Need
The C8 makes a fantastic daily driver, it seems.
Suitable Daily
In the old days, most people that owned sports cars also owned something else to drive on a daily basis, for a number of valid reasons. Sports cars were once full of compromises, focused on performance and little else. However, times have changed, and even though many Corvette owners don’t daily drive them, the C8 is certainly up to that task, according to MotorTrend.

Only Car You Need?
MT just wrapped up its one-year test of the C8, and came away mighty impressed by a number of the car’s many qualities, with one, in particular, standing out. “Yes, we’re really going to stand here and tell you a Corvette is the only car you need,” the review notes. “Within reason, of course. People with kids or who regularly transport plywood will need another set of wheels. Everyone else? Get a ‘Vette.”

Fast and Useful
Indeed, the rag tested the C8 in more ways than most people would dare, taking it on long road trips, strapping a Christmas tree to the roof, and even driving on dirt roads. At the same time, this Z51-equipped car also beat a Porsche Cayman GT4 around the race track to boot.

Stellar Combination
The C8 has plenty of room for groceries and multiple carry-on bags, thanks to its front and rear trunks. It’s far more practical than the average mid-engine sports car in that regard, though it’s quite comfortable to drive as well. “The C8’s combination of class-leading ride quality, unusually comfortable sport seats, and high-speed stability made a drive of any length easy,” MT said.

One Problem
Perhaps the biggest problem with daily driving the C8 is the fact that it sits quite low to the ground, which is common in this segment. Of course, that’s where the front lift system comes in handy. And maintenance proved to be quite cheap when compared to other sports cars as well, aside from having to buy new tires thanks to this Corvette’s extended time on the track.

Few Complaints
Overall, MT didn’t have too many complaints about the C8 after spending a year with it, aside from the fact that you have to reach to get to the waterfall of buttons in the center, and the wireless charger is located in a poor position too.

Ultimate Solution
Otherwise, the C8 isn’t just one of the best sports cars one can buy at the moment, it’s also perhaps the most practical, too. “On a fairly regular basis, our friends and coworkers post photos of cars they’ve seen parked next to each other in the wild with a caption like ‘ultimate two-car garage,” MT said. “Great if you can’t pick just one car and you have money to spend on multiple. If you can live with just two seats, though, you don’t need a two-car solution. The C8 Corvette is the ultimate one-car-garage solution.”
