Baojun has recently unveiled the Yep, a small electric SUV built on the MG Comet’s Global Small Electric Vehicle platform in China. This exciting new vehicle is set to arrive in India soon, where it will be rebranded as a product of MG Motor.
The Yep electric SUV has a boxy design similar to the Comet EV, but it has a retro-inspired look, resembling the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Ford Bronco. The EV has bigger wheel arches and is equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels.
Yep, will compete against the three-door Suzuki Jimny. When comparing the two, the Yep is approximately 300mm shorter in length than the Jimny. However, it’s worth noting that the Yep is 40mm wider than the Jimny and only 4mm shorter in height.
Inside, this compact SUV is feature packed and gets a three-spoke steering wheel, drive selector, and a proper functional glove box, while the hatchback sibling, in comparison, gets just the cubbyhole.
Other features include a 10.25-inch infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster, a battery temperature management system, a rearview camera, heated front seats, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, and four USB ports.
The top of the line variant also gets ADAS with adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, a 360-degree camera, and an automatic parking assist.
Baojun Yep SUV houses a 28.1kWh battery pack that powers the rear axle-mounted electric motor, producing 68bhp and 140Nm of peak torque. Yep can reach a top speed of 100km/h, and Baojun claims a range of 303km on a single charge.
The battery of the Yep charges faster than the Comet EV. It can be charged from 30-80 per cent in just 35 minutes using DC fast charging. The Yep can charge from 20-80 per cent when using AC charging in 8.5 hours.
