The last local example of Nissan’s swansong supercar to go under the hammer to raise money for charity
A Nissan dealership in Victoria will auction off the very last R35-series Nissan GT-R T-Spec, a special-edition supercar introduced in late 2021 as the last-hurrah for the current generation of the Japanese brand’s iconic performance flagship.
The bidding will start from a cool $395,000 – almost $140K more than the list price of the limited-edition T-Spec ($256,700 plus on-road costs) when it landed Down Under last November.
But that’s still well short of the $650K being asked by at least two owners on carsales for the T-Spec, which is now sold out Down Under.
While the current R35 Nissan GT-R will continue to be sold globally for the foreseeable future (except in Europe due to emissions laws), the final and finest MY22 versions became instant classics in Australia due to new federal side impact crash regulations known as ADR 85 that banned R35 imports from November 1, 2021.
Less than 50 of the final MY22 GT-Rs were imported by Nissan, of which around 30 were T-Specs, with the more expensive and more powerful GT-R NISMO SV ($393,800 plus ORCs, 441kW/652Nm) being even more exclusive than the T-Spec, for which asking prices have been as high as a million dollars.
The MY22 Nissan GT-R T-Spec is powered by the same hand-built 419kW/632Nm 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 as the regular GT-R, but scores a bespoke brake system, 20-inch forged gold alloy wheels and a unique dark green leather interior, just to name a few highlights.
Whatever Australia’s final GT-R T-Spec sells for, it will go to a good cause. Nissan says all net proceeds over $280,000 will be split between two charities: the Upper Ferntree Gully Brigade of the CFA, a volunteer fire service, and the Bridge Builders Youth Charity, another volunteer-led organisation that aims to empower young people.
Ferntree Gully Nissan dealer principal Michael Banjanin said there is no better way to mark the farewell of an iconic vehicle like the GT-R than to raise money for worthy causes.
“We’re proud to be a part of the Ferntree Gully community, and we’re delighted to be able to give back to the people who give so selflessly to others,” he said.
“There is definitely going to be one very happy GT-R owner soon.”
The highest bidder will also take home an additional Nissan GT-R engine cover, signed by its chief engineer Hiroshi Tamura, as well as a copy of the book ‘GT-R The Journey’.
It’s hoped next month’s auction will raise enough funds to give the Upper Ferntree Gully Fire Brigade station a much-needed major upgrade, and to help the Bridge Builders Youth Charity expand and be able to reach more youths.
Bidders will need to register for the online auction, which will begin on April 7 and close at 8:00pm AEST on April 12, 2022.
