Audi has confirmed that South Africa is getting six new electric e-tron models in the first quarter of 2022.
The e-tron vehicles that will reach local showrooms span three segments: namely the SUV, crossover, and high-performance categories.
“Announcing our electric vehicle range is a key part of our objective to have the youngest and freshest product offering in the market,” said Sascha Sauer, head of Audi South Africa.
This forms part of the company’s global objective to have every new Audi model be all-electric from 2026.
The line-up
According to Audi, the local market will receive the following models:
- Audi e-tron 50
- Audi e-tron 55
- Audi e-tron Sportback 55
- Audi e-tron Sportback S
- Audi e-tron GT
- Audi RS e-tron GT
“Product specifications and pricing associated with the e-tron range will be announced closer to retail launch,” said Audi.
Until then, prospective buyers are invited to “register their interest” on the company’s website.
Audi e-tron GT
Car fans will be pleased to hear the Audi e-tron GT is on its way, as it is Audi’s high-performance competitor to the likes of the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan.
According to Audi, the e-tron is available in a standard format or a more aggressive RS e-tron GT derivative.
The “normal” model puts out a healthy 390kW and 640Nm with continuous boost mode activated.
The range-topping model then delivers a maximum of 475kW and 830Nm, which assures a 0-100km/h sprint in 3.3 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h.
Both vehicles are also fitted with Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system, and both offer a driving range of over 450km.
No official charging times have been released by the company yet, but Audi said that five minutes of charging at a maximum DC current can add 100km of range.
In Germany, the e-tron GT Quattro has a starting price of €99,800 (R1.7 million), while the RS e-tron GT Quattro goes for €138,200 (R2.35 million).
