Mazda Australia now inviting registrations of interest for its first rear-drive straight-six model
The all-new 2022 Mazda CX-60 will make its global premiere at 2:00am AEST on March 9, according to a countdown clock on a minisite at Mazda Australia’s public website.
The same page also shows a short teaser clip that doesn’t reveal much we haven’t already seen; in fact, the all-new medium/large SUV has already been fully exposed in spy pics from Japan, ahead of its confirmed Australian release later this year.
Mazda Australia has also confirmed the CX-60 will be its first model available with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, alongside a range of longitudinal inline four- and six-cylinder mild-hybrid turbo-petrol and diesel engines that will give it a decidedly premium edge over its competitors.
All engine options are expected to be included in the local CX-60 line-up, although their arrival is likely to be staggered out into the early months of 2023.
“The SUV that will change everything” is how Mazda Australia is billing the CX-60 – the first model to be launched on the car-maker’s all-new rear- and all-wheel drive platform.
“Prepare for a step-change in Mazda’s SUV range. First-Ever Mazda CX-60 is set to stand apart. The perfect balance of master craftsmanship and sophistication, it’s an all-new driving expression that will make a stunning impression.
“Register your interest to be the first in the know.”
As we’ve reported, the 2022 Mazda CX-60 will be the first member of the Japanese brand’s so-called Large Product Group to break cover, pitched in Australia as a slightly longer, wider and more expensive relation to the popular Mazda CX-5.

Mazda is yet to confirm whether the other three members of the Large Product Group – CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90 – will come to Australia, which could become the only market in which all four models are sold, eventually replacing both the CX-8 and CX-9.
The next Mazda CX-5 due in 2023 will migrate to the Large Product Group architecture and like the CX-60 will remain a five-seater, unlike the similarly narrow-bodied but seven-seat CX-80, while the wider-body five-seat CX-70 and seven-seat CX-90 are aimed at markets like the US.
