As part of the New York International Auto Show, Stellantis has unveiled the 2024 Jeep Wrangler with subtle styling changes and several useful upgrades. There are two new models in the lineup, more safety equipment, and the first factory application of Trails Offroad, giving owners an easy-to-use guide to various off-road trails right from the infotainment screen. In addition, the Wrangler 4xe hybrid model now comes with the Jeep 4xe Power Box, offering four 120-volt power outlets with 30 amps of total output, making it easier to keep devices juiced while you're out on the trail.
Let's take a closer look at the updates for the new model year.
Refreshed Exterior Design
The refreshed seven-slot grille introduced on the Wrangler Rubicon 20th Anniversary has been updated here with black textured slots, neutral grey metallic bezels, and a body-color surround. On the Willys model, you get gloss black slots and bezels, while the High Altitude gets gloss black bezels, and the Sahara has platinum silver slots and bezels. The steel mast antenna has also been replaced by a stealth unit integrated into the front windshield, minimizing the risk of damage from snagging on the trails.
10 new standard and optional wheel designs are offered, ranging in size from 17 to 20 inches. The Xtreme 35 Package includes beadlock-capable wheels, and available tires measure 32 to 35 inches.
A new standard premium soft-top is joined by a pair of hardtops (black or body color), the Sky One-Touch power top, the Sunrider for Hardtop, and the usual half-door options. As for colors, Anvil is a new addition to the range, which already includes Earl, Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, Silver Zynith, High Velocity, Hydro Blue, Sarge, Bright White, and black.
New Soft-Touch Interior
To provide a more premium look and feel, the Wrangler comes with a wrapped instrument panel with new soft-touch surfaces in fabric or polyurethane featuring contrast stitching. In the center, the largest display ever fitted to a Wrangler finds a home, with the 12.3-inch Uconeect 5 touchscreen underscored by a slim rectangular air vent. The outboard vents retain their traditional round shape, but the big news is the addition of Trails Offroad.
This provides detailed trail guides with route descriptions and difficulty ratings for 62 different Jeep Badge of Honor trails, including Moab, but more than 3,000 can be unlocked with a subscription. Other new additions include the ability to access five user profiles and a valet mode, the ability to connect two Bluetooth devices simultaneously, and the addition of Sirius XM 360L and over-the-air updates.
New Features Across The Board
That new seven-slot grille was redesigned partly to accommodate the option of an 8,000-lb-capacity Warn winch from the factory. You can also now have power front seats that can withstand water fording, and side curtain airbags for both the front and second rows are finally standard. The Wrangler can now get its first full-float Dana rear axle, too, making it easier to fit larger aftermarket tires. There is also now an available 100:1 crawl ratio and an increased 5,000-pound tow rating. Forward collision warning and advanced cruise control with stop are now standard on the Sport S and higher trims.
Available trims will be the Sport, Sport S, Willys, Sahara, High Altitude, Rubicon, Rubicon X, and Rubicon 392. Sport, Sport S, Rubicon, and Rubicon X derivatives are available in both two- and four-door guise, but the Willys, Sahara, High Altitude, and Rubicon 392 are four-door-only Unlimited models.
Two New Trims For More Variety
The Sport S 4xe and Wrangler Rubicon X join the 2024 lineup to offer more diversity. The Sport S 4xe makes the hybrid Wrangler (currently the best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle in the US) a little more affordable. It has the same 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque as a regular 4xe, meaning 21 miles of all-electric range. This gets the 12.3-inch touchscreen, power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, a premium soft top, 20-inch aluminum wheels, and a Gorilla glass windshield, as well as the abovementioned safety features.
The Rubicon X leans to the other end of the Wrangler spectrum, much like the X trims on the Grand Cherokee, building on the regular Rubicon with the addition of the 12.3-inch display and navigation, 12-way power-adjustable front seats, a nine-speaker Alpine audio system, and Nappa leather seats. Under the skin, you get a Rock-Trac full-time transfer case and an off-road camera, finished off with steel bumpers, a body-color hard top, and body-color fender flares.
Powertrains and Orders
As usual, the 4xe and Rubicon 392 are only available with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the 2.0- and 3.6-liter gas engines can also be had with a six-speed manual.
The 2.0-liter turbocharged 4xe hybrid still produces 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, while the unelectrified 2.0-liter turbo-four generates 270 hp and 295 lb-ft. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 produces 285 hp and 260 lb-ft, and the range-topping 6.4-liter V8 in the Rubicon 392 delivers 470 hp and 470 lb-ft.
Orders are already open, with deliveries expected to arrive at dealerships later this year. Pricing has not yet been revealed, but we expect that to be announced closer to delivery time.
