The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is now available in the U.S., and it has three significant changes from the 2022 model, which is still on sale. Here are the details on America’s best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle for the new model year:
1. New exterior colors
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is available in two new exterior colors: Earl and Reign. Earl (pictured above) is a replacement for the outgoing model’s Snazzberry paint and it costs USD 395. Reign (pictured below), a new color, is a limited edition option costing USD 495.
Customers can select the new colors in the base Sahara trim and the mid-range Rubicon trim, but not the top-of-the-line High Altitude trims. In total, there are 11 color choices for the 2023 Wrangler 4xe, as listed below:

2. New decal
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe features a Wrangler Decal with an American Flag on the front fenders. The new decal is in honor of the brand’s military heritage and it’s also a tribute to the American workers who make the Wrangler.
3. Revised prices
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is slightly costlier than the 2022 model. It’s available in Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude trims, with prices starting at USD 55,260 (excl. USD 1,595 destination charges). The table below shows the prices and price hikes for each of these trims:

2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe specifications
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe’s powertrain teams up a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with two electric motors, a 17.3 kWh (gross) battery pack, and the TorqueFlight 8-speed automatic transmission. The gasoline engine produces 270 hp and 295 lb.-ft. of torque.

The first electric motor is an engine-mounted generator unit, and the other is a transmission-mounted generator unit integrated into the transmission. The former delivers 44 hp and 39 lb.-ft. of torque, while the latter develops 134 hp and 181 lb.-ft. of torque.
The engine-mounted motor-generator is a replacement for the conventional alternator. It spins the engine for start-stop operation and generates electricity for the battery pack. The transmission-mounted motor-generator replaces the conventional torque converter. In total, the plug-in hybrid electric powertrain offers 375 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque.
The 17.3 kWh battery pack is a Lithium-ion NMC unit that operates at up to 400 volts. Jeep expects it to provide an EPA-est. pure electric driving range of 21 miles and an EPA-est. combined fuel economy of 49 MPGe. The EPA-est. combined range could be 370 miles.

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe debuted in September 2020 as the most eco-friendly Wrangler ever. Just as Jeep announced at the unveiling, customer deliveries of the PHEV in the U.S. market commenced in early 2021. The company produces the Wrangler PHEV at the Toledo Assembly Complex in Ohio, USA, since December 2020. In the first of 2022, the 4xe variant accounted for 19% (19,207 units) of the total Wrangler sales in the U.S. (99,947 units).
All all-electric Jeep Wrangler is in the pipeline which should emerge in the U.S. market in 2024.
