The 2023 BMW X5 PHEV has quietly entered the U.S., but it’s not the facelift model that media reports were claiming until June 2022. Here’s everything we know about the 2023 X5 Plug-in hybrid:
Design & Interior
As clarified in the introduction, the 2023 BMW X5 PHEV is based on the original fourth-gen model that arrived in the U.S. in 2018 and thus has no design changes. With the MY2023 update, the entire X5 range has lost the Arctic Grey metallic paint option. This is the only exterior change for the large SUV as part of the MY2023 update.

Inside, too, the X5, including the plug-in hybrid xDrive45e variant, has the same design. Instead of SensaTec, Sensafin is now the standard upholstery across the range. It is available in Cognac, Silverstone, Black, and Coffee colors. The Vernasca leather upholstery option no longer exists.
Customers checking optional packages should also take note of some changes. The M Sport package, available optionally on the xDrive45e configuration, no longer includes Vernasca leather. The Premium Package and Executive Package no longer include Gesture Control, but the former has seen the addition of wireless smartphone charging.
Specifications

The 2023 X5 PHEV has the same specifications as the 2022 model. The B58 3.0L BMW TwinPower Turbo straight-six gasoline engine works with 8-speed automatic transmission, a synchronous electric motor, and the xDrive AWD system. The gasoline engine and electric motor produce 389 hp of combined power and 443 lb.-ft. of system torque.
The electric motor uses energy stored in a 24 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The EPA-est. electric driving range isn’t out, but will likely be the same as that of the 2022 model – 31 miles. Expect the same EPA-est. combined efficiency rating of 50 MPGe. Charging the battery pack via a Level 2 charger takes 4 to 5.3 hours.
