The popular Nissan Qashqai has been electrified with the brand’s new e-Power system, but does this mean the family SUV has all the electric car benefits with none of the long charging times?…
Verdict
Company car users will welcome the lower benefit-in-kind tax bills of the Nissan Qashqai e-Power over regular models, although it ought to be said that 1.8-litre versions of the Toyota C-HR will still be cheaper to run. If space for the family isn’t a priority, the C-HR sits in a lower tax bracket and achieves a higher mpg figure than the Qashqai is predicted to get.
Final specs and pricing are due to be announced closer to the on-sale date, but expect the Qashqai e-Power to be positioned towards the premium end of the Family SUV class rather than by the cheap and cheerful rivals such as the Dacia Duster.
On first acquaintance the Qashqai e-Power is just as competent as the regular model and the reduced fuel consumption is especially welcome with the rise in fuel prices. However, it’s hard to ignore plug-in hybrid alternatives with even lower emissions and tax rates that will be more effective at minimising running costs for company car drivers.
