Some new bling has been introduced for the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid combining gloss black exterior accents with unique 21-inch wheels for what Jeep bills a premium blacked-out appearance. These styling cues carry the High Altitude name, a term Jeep has kept near and dear in its naming conventions and typically applies to more street-oriented, luxurious variants of its SUVs and Gladiator pickup.
Let’s talk about that High Altitude name. The Wrangler, Wrangler 4xe, Compass, and Gladiator all have High Altitude trim levels. Applied to the Grand Cherokee 4xe, the new plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee variant, the High Altitude is not a new trim that’ll be added to the current lineup of 4xe trims, which consist of the 4xe, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve.
It’s actually a package—dubbed the High Altitude Package—that’s selectable for the two highest trims, the Summit 4xe and Summit Reserve 4xe. A tad confusing, but here’s the takeaway: If you play around the with Grand Cherokee 4xe configurator, you’ll need to select Summit or Summit Reserve in order to find the High Altitude Package option. But we’re not mad at ya if you call it the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee High Altitude 4xe, as that’s how Jeep refers to its other High Altitude models. Moving on.
The High Altitude treatment splashes the already-well-appointed Grand Cherokee Summit 4xe and Summit Reserve 4xe with a dose of not-exactly-trail-hungry bling: 21-inch black-painted aluminum wheels (the Summit Reserve’s attractive wheels, just all black); painted door cladding; gloss black and neutral gray exterior accents and badging; and gloss black roof rails.
The High Altitude Package is $1,495 for Summit 4xe and $995 for Summit Reserve 4xe. The High Altitude Package will also be available on the Grand Cherokee L Summit and Summit Reserve models.
Wondering about that electric blue color? It’s called Hydro Blue Pearl Coat, and it’s a new exterior paint choice for the Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve trims of the two-row Grand Cherokee, three-row Grand Cherokee L, and Grand Cherokee 4xe that’s been offered on other Jeep models before, including the Wrangler. As expected, it comes with a $395 premium—in fact, many Grand Cherokee 4xe paint colors are extra-cost, even on the lesser trims.
The Grand Cherokee High Altitude 4xe in stunning Hydro Blue is on display at the 2022 New York International Auto Show. The appearance package and new exterior paint color are available to order in the second half of 2022.
