Here's what it'll be lacking.
There are some things in this world that simply can’t be avoided despite best efforts. This is one of them. The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is set to lose its rear park assist feature due to one very familiar and frustrating reason: the semiconductor chip shortage. The news today comes from the folks at the Corvette Action Center, so we’re confident the information is legitimate.
Effective as of January 24, 2022, that rear park assist system has been deleted from new C8s rolling off the Bowling Green, Kentucky assembly line because of the ongoing chip crisis. It’s not a huge deal and we highly doubt customers will care all that much. After all, they’ve been waiting long enough for delivery. Why wait even longer for a system they can easily do without?
As compensation for the system’s loss, these customers will receive a $50 credit per vehicle. But, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Chevy estimates the part’s availability will happen sometime in the fourth quarter of this year. That means these Vettes will be able to be retrofitted with the chip at a later date. Rear park assist is the latest and, sadly, probably not the last, feature that’s currently unavailable.
As we previously reported, the optional high wing spoiler in Carbon Flash Metallic is also currently not in stock. Chevy recommends for buyers to opt for the new low profile wing instead as it uses the same mounting points as the high wing. The Engine Appearance and Lighting Package still remains unavailable to order as well due to the carbon fiber supplier exiting the industry entirely.
It stopped building all carbon fiber components on January 31, 2022. It’ll be a little bit of time until GM finds a new supplier. Fortunately, there’s also some good news to report for Corvette shoppers. The carbon fiber outside mirror covers and carbon fiber grille inserts (for the 3LT trim only) will be available to order once again on February 7. Looking even further ahead, the 2023 Corvette Order Guide will be released on March 21. Pre-orders will get underway on March 24.
In related C8 news, Chevy has confirmed a total of 146 dealers will be participating in the 2023 Corvette Z06 Dealer Tour. This will involve two pre-production Z06s traveling to these dealers for customer demonstrations. If you’re interested, just contact your local dealer to see if it’s on the list.
