An electric short caused by a faulty sensor could cause a fire.
Ford Motor Company, the parent company of Lincoln, has advised MKC owners to park their vehicles outside due to an issue that could cause a fire.
In the Safety Recall Report by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a faulty battery monitoring sensor is seen as the root of the issue. The sensors could become damaged during battery servicing. This could result in an electrical short, which could potentially lead to a fire.
Of note, the said component could catch fire even when the vehicle is parked or off.

Ford is urgently recalling 142,734 Lincoln MKC crossovers with model years 2015 through 2019. The Blue Oval company is also aware of 19 potentially related reports of underhood fire, 11 of which were in the United States. Fortunately, there are no physical injuries related to the recall report.
The automaker is currently investigating the root of the issue. In the meantime, Ford is encouraging MKC owners who paid for repairs out of pocket to submit the receipts for reimbursement. The ending date for reimbursement eligibility is estimated to be on November 30, 2023.

Fellow American auto brand Jeep is facing a similar issue with over 130,000 Cherokee units produced between 2013 and 2015. A powered liftgate issue poses a fire risk, which could injure people inside and outside the vehicle. Owners will start receiving notification letters on June 30, 2023.
Meanwhile, Lincoln MKC owners will receive a notification letter starting June 26, 2023. Dealers have already been notified regarding the matter.
The MKC isn't the only model in Lincoln's lineup to get recently recalled. Back in March, Ford recalled 1.3 million units of the Fusion and its Lincoln sibling, the MKZ. According to the report, the front brake hoses could rupture prematurely, increasing the risk of brake failure. Owners of the midsize sedan have already been notified.
