The 2023 ASX will be based on the Renault Captur and employ the same powertrain as the French crossover.

Mitsubishi’s range of veteran vehicles have started to be replaced after an alliance with Renault and Nissan has come to fruition. Next on the list is the 2023 Mitsubishi ASX crossover which was recently teased at a digital conference.

The early adopter to the crossover trend is now expected as a completely refreshed model in 2023. This comes after news in July of 2020 that Mitsubishi would not introduce any new models into the European market but in March of 2021 decided otherwise. After a digital conference for Alliance 2030 between Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi, plans were put into place where two new vehicles would be built by Renault and badge engineered with the Japanese manufacturers logo.
Both are expected by next year but the storied Japanese automaker has given the world a tease of what is to come with the 2023 Mitsubishi ASX which is due to arrive in Q1. The subcompact will logically be based on the new Renault Captur but it seems the changes are not only superficial as the teasers give an impression of a vastly different looking car. If all goes ahead, think of it as the lesser of two evils; platform sharing rather than badge engineering (Toyota and Suzuki, we’re looking at you) although we are sure they will still share some bits and pieces.

The newbie will be assembled in the same Spanish Valladolid factory that the Captur is put together while also sharing a hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain taken from its French counterpart. Details like pricing haven’t been confirmed but we can expect it to be in the same region as the Captur.

No further details have emerged on the second model in the partnership other than the fact that it will be based on another Renault product with electrified powertrains but based on Mitsubishi’s portfolio we can speculate that it will be a slightly bigger model than the new ASX.
