The Mazda CX-9 will be discontinued after the 2023 model year, the company announced in a press release.
The three-row crossover has been replaced by the new, more upscale CX-90 we reviewed back in May. It’s a logical move, given that the second-generation CX-9 launched in 2016 and was due for redesign or replacement, and we’re much more impressed by its rear-wheel-drive based successor with optional inline-six and plug-in-hybrid powertrains. Mazda’s clear in its release that the CX-90 better represents the direction of the brand.
“Offering a unique blend of utility, performance, design and premium sensibilities, [the] CX-9 proved to be a very capable family vehicle paving the way for Mazda’s next generation of vehicles, like the first-ever 2024 CX-90,” it said.
For those who prefer the old CX-9, 2023 models are still available for the time being. But act fast, as once they’re gone the CX-9 will be, too.
