A massive Nissan recall is in place, impacting more than 809,000 Rogue SUV models. Imagine driving on the road in your Nissan Rogue compact SUV when suddenly the vehicle shuts off without warning. This could be an extremely dangerous situation that nobody wants to experience.

The Nissan Rogue has been the most popular vehicle in the Nissan lineup for several years. That doesn’t bode well for a major recall covering several model years. This new Nissan recall covers certain Rogue SUVs from 2014 through 2020. The Rogue Sport models aren’t immune to this problem as the recall impacts these smaller Nissan SUVs from 2017 through 2022.
What’s causing these Nissan SUVs to be recalled?
2015 Nissan Rogue Key Fob | Nissan
The Rogue and Rouge Sport models from the impacted model year have jackknife folding key fobs. These key fobs have recently been found to be problematic when they don’t stay open. If the key fob isn’t fully open while the vehicle is actively driving, the driver could inadvertently touch the fob and turn off the engine.
When these Nissan Rogue key fobs aren’t fully open, the touching of this device can cause more than just engine power (which is certainly bad enough), it can also cause the loss of braking power, and the airbags might not inflate in a crash.
Has this faulty key fob caused any recent Nissan Rogue crashes?
To date, Nissan is unaware of any crashes or injuries caused by this problem. Hopefully, this doesn’t change and we don’t hear of several new accidents caused by Nissan Rogue SUVs suddenly losing power. Imagine a driver brushing their hand or leg against the key fob causing the engine to shut off, brakes to stop, and airbags to fail. That could be an extremely scary situation for anyone.
What is the fix for this Nissan Rogue recall?

So far, Nissan hasn’t produced a fix for this problem. Owners of impacted Nissan Rogue models will be notified this month with a letter. This letter will tell owners not to attach anything to the key ring with the key fob.
Later, potentially when Nissan has a fix for this problem, another letter will go out telling owners to bring their Nissan SUV models in for repairs. The Associated Press reports that Nissan also advises owners with keys that won’t stay in the open position to contact their local dealers.

Nissan privies a recall lookup page for owners to learn whether or not they have any recalls on their vehicles, including this most recent recall. SUV owners that would prefer to learn this information by phone can call the Nissan Consumer Affairs line at (800) 867-7669.

Any Nissan Rogue and Rogue Sport owners with the jackknife-style key fob should take any other keys or keyrings off of the fob. Additionally, these Nissan SUV owners should ensure the fob is completely open before driving and be diligent about avoiding touching the fob while driving.
