The final version of the mid-engined Audi supercar to make use of an ICE has just been revealed. The 2023 Audi R8 marks the end of the road for the 5,2-litre naturally aspirated V10 powertrain used in both the R8 and Lamborghini Huracan but the Audi R8 V10 GT coupe continues its combination of high performance and striking design, infused with premium materials and goosebump-inducing engine notes.

Producing 456 kW of power and 565 N.m of torque, all sent to the rear wheels through a tweaked 7-speed dual-clutch transmission; the R8 has the ability to go from 0 – 100 km/h in just 3,4 seconds and onto its top speed of 320 km/h. For even better performance, the engineers from Ingolstadt have managed to shave off 20 kilograms compared to the standard R8 V10 RWD. With a strict diet of carbon fibre reinforced plastic, light bucket seats, lightweight 20-inch Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres and ceramic brakes, the Audi R8 V10 GT now weighs a feathery 1 570 kg.

Weight from the front suspension components has been shaved down as well while being designed to improve handling specifically, the front anti-roll bar and its connecting rods are now made out of carbon fibre reinforced plastic meanwhile the two coupling rod connections are made of red anodized aluminium. The R8 GT will come in the same Matte Suzuka Grey shade as the first generation R8, Tangorot Metallic and Daytona Grey Metallic will also be available. Inside, the homage theme continues, a black interior with red accents and the trademark red seatbelts from the original made a return.

The new Audi R8 V10 GT will feature a new torque rear-drive mode to control slip in the rear axle with a traction control system. The desired rear torque level can be adjusted on the steering wheel, level 1 allows little slippage and level 7 is basically no traction control at all. Fitted with an aerodynamic pack which includes a new splitter, canard flaps, side skirts and a revised diffuser, the final mid-engined German supercar will produce more downforce compared to the standard R8.

Audi has created an R8 on steroids, The new R8 does not only look amazing but also presents high performance in its purest form. Sadly only 333 examples will be built and sold, Audi has confirmed that the successor to the R8 will take the form of a battery-powered e-tron spaceship, making this last Audi R8 V10 GT a piece of automotive history.
