Insane Ford Mustang-based electric drag racer set to pump out 1342kW
Ford has begun teasing its wild new all-electric Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 pure-electric drag racer ahead of its reveal on April 13.
Previewed by a short teaser clip on social media showing the battery-electric drag racer spinning up its impossibly large radial tyres, the new Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 is primed said to more than 1800hp (1342kW) of power from its multi-motor electric powertrain.
Ford’s latest electric drag car follows the 2020 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet 1400, which mustered an incredible 1030kW and 1490Nm of torque to be capable of an incredible 8.0sec quarter-mile time, crossing the 400m line at more than 275km/h.
Based on a drag car chassis, the previous born-again Cobra Jet featured race-spec suspension, an obligatory full roll-cage, uprated brakes and Mickey Thompson competition rubber.

It was so fast it needed a parachute and wheelie bar to keep things under control – equipment normally reserved for top-fuel dragsters.
Apart from showcasing the latest S650-series Ford Mustang, it’s thought the motivation behind creating the Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 is to preview the Blue Oval brand’s next-generation electric powertrain technologies.
Stay tuned as more teasers of the Super Cobra Jet 1800 are expected in the build-up to its April 13 reveal.
Two weeks ago Ford Australia confirmed it would release the Mustang Mach-E electric SUV – its first dedicated EV, its first all-electric passenger vehicle and its third battery-powered model behind the upcoming E-Transit and E-Transit Custom commercial vans– by the end of this year.
