Meet Ken Block’s electric S1 quattro-inspired Hoonitron set to debut in Elektrikhana video
Audi has officially taken the covers off a one-off electric hatch that Ken Block will pilot in his new Elektrikhana video.
Having signed with Audi earlier in the year, the US rally legend and famed stunt driver has already delivered a series of videos that cover the German car-maker’s “influence, heritage and racing future”.
He’s also cut laps in some of Audi’s most powerful and iconic models, including the e-tron Vision Gran Turismo, S1 quattro and a DTM race car.
Now, the next chapter for the ‘Hoonigan’ has arrived in the form of a strictly one-off Audi S1 e-tron quattro Hoonitron.
At least, that’s the official name for the wicked, fully-electric two-door that’ll star in Block’s upcoming ‘Elektrikhana’ stunt video and has just been revealed in a new YouTube video.
Developed at Audi’s Neckarsulm facility in Germany – home of the Audi RS e-tron GT – the Hoonitron is powered by a pair of electric motors (one at the front and the other at the rear) and sits atop a carbon-fibre chassis.
It’s not yet known how much power the Hoonitron will produce, however after a few test days in Germany, Block says there’s plenty for him to learn.
“I’m familiar with a wide variety of cars using internal combustion engines and transmissions, but there were a lot of new things for me to learn here,” he said.
“Spinning into a donut at 150km/h directly from standstill – just using my right foot – is an all-new experience for me.”
Featuring several futuristic cues borrowed from the e-tron family, the slick S1 Hoonitron features a huge rear spoiler, enclosed wheels and a host of interactive LED lighting.
Audi’s design team was reportedly given just four weeks to come up with a design, which is said to be a modern, all-electric interpretation of the S1 Pikes Peak.
“The S1 Hoonitron combines a lot of what Audi was already famous for in the 1980s,” said Block.
“For instance, the car’s spectacular aerodynamics have now been translated into a totally modern form. I think it’s cool that Audi designers have been inspired by their own past and uniquely transferred the car’s technologies and appearance into the present.”
