That makes sense, modern trucks do it all, from hauling the family to desert running with style. But which trucks were the most popular in 2022 according to sales data from Kelley Blue Book?
No. 1: Ford F-Series

We’re not at all surprised. For several decades the Ford F-Series trucks, and specifically the F-150, have held down the top sales spot. Why? They do truck stuff very well, but they come in a dizzying array of trims that can meet the needs of almost any buyer.
Do you need an off-road beast? Look at the Raptor or the Tremor. Want a luxury truck, a work truck, an EV, or a do-it all daily driver? There’s an F-150 trim likely to fit your needs. In 2022, Ford sold 787,422 examples of the F-Series, according to Kelley Blue Book.
No. 2: Chevrolet Silverado
The 2022 Chevy Silverado comes in a distant second to the Ford F-150 in sales numbers, but when it comes to capability, price, and other factors, it’s hard to pick a favorite. You can still get Chevy’s mighty 6.2-liter V8 with 420 horsepower, but you can also now order an efficient 310-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder.
Chevy sold 570,639 Silverados in 2022. It now has a more refined interior, yet it can still get muddy, or tow up to 13,300 pounds with the optional diesel engine.
No. 3: Ram 1500

Ram took a gamble years ago to equip all of its trucks with an independent rear suspension. That one trick makes the Ram 1500 trucks ride smoother than other full-size trucks, and it pays off in the mud, too. But then Ram also upgraded its interiors, and the trims, to make these feel like premium trucks.
These trucks are holding on to the old-school, but potent, 5.7-liter V8 that now comes with a 48-volt hybrid booster that helps with instant torque. Ram sold 563,676 trucks in 2022.
No. 4: GMC Sierra

Add up the Sierra and Silverado sales, and General Motors sells more trucks than Ford. Having two brands helps, and the Sierra slots in as the more luxurious of the two GM trucks. You can get all of the capability of a Silverado, including the monster motors and turbo fours, but also the Denali luxury packages that make this truck more of an Escalade with a bed.
GMC sold 253,016 examples of the Sierra in 2022. Look for the new model coming out in late 2023 as a 2024 to bring even more tech, and possibly a hybrid version.
No. 5: Toyota Tacoma

The only surprise with the Tacoma is that Toyota didn’t sell more of them. The Tacoma, though, is getting a bit long in the tooth. The last time it saw an update was 2016, and many are expecting Toyota to launch a new Tacoma for 2024. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s not an excellent truck that’s the right size for the truck stuff that most of us want.
Toyota sold 238,806 examples in 2022. Many of those were the upgraded off-road TRD versions, but the standard truck still gets a lot done.
