For the most part, the 2022 Toyota Tacoma remains unchanged. It’s primarily a carryover model and has received steady updates since the current generation was introduced in 2016. The 2023 Toyota Tacoma is expected to be fully redesigned, though.
But the new 2022 Tacoma Trail Edition is available. It’s based on the Tacoma SR5 and comes with standard four-wheel drive, a locking rear differential, a 1.1-inch lift in the front, and a 0.5-inch rear suspension lift.
As a result, the approach angle is improved to 34 degrees, the departure angle increased to 23.6 degrees, and the break-over angle is greater at 26.4 degrees.
The Trail Edition has a unique look with Bronze-finish 16-inch wheels wrapped in Goodyear all-terrain tires, bronze exterior accents, and a heritage-style grille.
Is the 2022 TRD Pro better?
The 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro received a few upgrades. It has a 1.5-inch suspension lift in the front and a 0.5-inch lift in the rear. It also has new TRD-tuned Fox Internal bypass shocks and new forged aluminum upper control arms to leverage added rebound stoke accompanying the modifications.
According to J.D. Power, the TRD PRo now has a 36.4-degree approach angle, 24.5-degree departure angle, and a 26.6-degree break-over angle.
The TRD Pro now comes with 16-inch black aluminum wheels wrapped in Goodyear Territory all-terrain tires with new exterior badges and graphics. TRD PRO is stamped into both sides of the cargo bed too.
New colors for the 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro include Electric Lime, Super White, Midnight Black, and Magnetic Grey. The Trail Edition is available in Lunar Rock, Army Green, Midnight Black, and Super White.
Is the 2022 Tacoma worth buying?

Yes, the 2022 Toyota Tacoma is an excellent off-roading truck to consider. The TRD Pro is even more capable than before, and the Trail Edition provides off-roading capabilities with a sense of luxury comfort.
However, the 2023 model is expected to have new powertrain options, including a hybrid build. The Tacoma is currently powered by a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 159 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque.
You can upgrade to the 3.5-liter V6 engine for 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. It can be paired with a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic.
The 2021 Toyota Tacoma starts at about $26,400, while the 2022 Tacoma increases the price to around $26,700. Unless you want the new Trail Edition or enhanced TRD Pro model, there isn’t much reason to go with a 2022 model over the 2021 model.
Both model years provide a durable, long-lasting truck. The 2023 Tacoma will probably cost a little more due to the new exterior look, redesigned interior, and other upgrades. But we’re still waiting to learn more.
If you buy a Tacoma and aren’t a fan, don’t worry. This truck retains an excellent resale value. Going for a 2021 or 2022 model wouldn’t be bad while we wait for the brand new Tacoma to arrive.
