According to InsideEVs , if you try to spec and order a 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E, a message from Ford will meet your inquiry. “Due to high demand, the current model year is no longer available for retail order. Limited inventory may be available at selected dealers. Contact your dealer for more information.” This is unfortunate, given the growing popularity of the electric vehicles.
Ford’s quiet online announcement came shortly after the company said they couldn’t fill orders for specific trim levels, namely the Mach-E Premium and California Route 1 models. InsideEvs reports that the global shortage of semiconductors is likely to have played a huge role in the production issues.

Ford recently announced that the Mexican plant where the Mustang Mach-E is manufactured is set to triple production in 2023. The announcement to ramp up Mach-E production at Cuautitlan comes after Ford canceled plans to build the EV Explorer and Lincoln Aviator at that plant.
There is some bad news, though. Ford hiked the prices for Mach-E EVs in the United Kingdom by a troubling $8,000 for the standard model. Ford attributes the United Kingdom EV price hikes to “a dramatic increase in material and energy costs.”
Additionally, the availability of the Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles doesn’t appear to be getting any better any time soon. According to InsideEVs, analysts and experts are saying that supply chain issues and production shortages aren’t likely to improve soon.
What can you do to get a Mach-E right now?

InsideEVs says that options for consumers to get their hands on Ford’s popular EV are currently limited to waiting for the next model year or searching for a preowned example. The problem with seeking a preowned Mach-E resides in the dealer markup that customers are facing. The problem with dealer markup is so out of control that Ford CEO Jim Farley issued a warning to Ford dealerships. Farley said that punitive measures facing dealers engaging in heinous markups will include reduced product allocation going forward.
Hopefully, Ford and other major automotive manufacturers will solve the material shortages and supply chain issues currently plaguing the market. Considering Ford’s plans to triple the EV model’s production at the plant in Mexico, material shortages could have a detrimental impact on the likelihood of getting your hands on even a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E.
