Volkswagen's new ID.3 was the best-selling electric vehicle across Europe in October 2020.
The ID.3 jumped the ever-popular Tesla Model 3 in sales, according to a report complied by Jato Dynamics.
For the first time, electric cars garnered a larger market share than their diesel counterparts in September, with the trend continuing into October.
The market share for Electric and hybrid models grew to 26.8%, with 302,587 units sold, a growth of 153% when compared to October 2019’s sales, with much of the ID3's success being attributed to fleet and business customers.
Pure electric cars (BEV) saw a year-on-year increase of 197%, with 71,800 units sold in October, the report adds.
Felipe Munoz, global analyst at JATO Dynamics said: “Similarly to the demand seen for the Tesla Model 3, the Volkswagen ID.3 is another example of how appetite for competitive and stylish electric cars continues to grow day by day.” Munoz added: “Volkswagen Group is catching up to its peers at great pace, in part due to its strong presence in Northern and Central Europe, where appetite for EVs continues to grow.”
Volkswagen had other reasons to celebrate, the iconic Golf was Europe's best-selling car, boasting 27,530 registrations across the continent.
