Volkswagen India has hiked the prices for the Taigun SUV up to Rs 45,000. The price hike had been announced last month and the revised prices are currently applicable to the SUV.
Diving into details, the least price hike of Rs 6,000 was benefitted by the base ‘Comfortline’ variant of the Taigun SUV, whereas the highest price hike of Rs 45,000 was witnessed on the Anniversary Edition of the SUV.
On the other hand, prices for the ‘Highline’ variant of the Volkswagen Taigun SUV have been hiked by Rs 24,000, whereas the ‘GT’ and ‘GT Plus’ variants of the Taigun SUV received a price hike of Rs 30,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively.
Speaking about the powertrain, the Volkswagen Taigun SUV comes with two petrol engine options and these powertrains have been updated to comply with the latest RDE and BS6 Phase 2 emission norms.
The base 1.0-litre, turbocharged, 3-cylinder engine puts out 113bhp of power and 178Nm of torque. This powertrain can be specified with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The next engine option is a more powerful 1.5-litre, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 147.5bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. This powertrain can be specified with either a 7-speed DSG gearbox or a 6-speed manual transmission. This powertrain also features cylinder deactivation technology for better fuel efficiency.
That being said, Volkswagen has also hiked the prices for the Volkswagen Virtus sedan in India. However, the German sedan witnessed a lower price hike compared to the Volkswagen Taigun SUV.
At present, the Volkswagen Taigun SUV prices start from Rs 11.62 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base ‘Comfortline’ variant, whereas the top-spec ‘GT Plus’ variant of the SUV with DSG gearbox is priced at Rs 19.06 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Thoughts About Volkswagen Taigun Price Hike
Though the Volkswagen Taigun helped Volkswagen India regain its momentum in India, the German SUV is not the best-selling model in its segment. As such, the latest price hike could have an impact on the overall sales figures of the German SUV for a few months.
