Just a few days after Skoda omitted the feature of automatic climate control from the mid-spec Ambition variant of the Kushaq SUV, Volkswagen has followed the suit by doing the same for the mid-spec Highline variant of the Taigun SUV. Like Skoda, Volkswagen has carried out this step silently in the wake of the ongoing shortage of semiconductor chips. It is the first time that Volkswagen has made some changes to the existing list of features on offer for the Taigun.
The Highline variant of the Volkswagen Taigun is positioned between the entry-level ‘Comfortline’ and top-spec ‘Topline’ variants. In place of a touch-controlled automatic climate control panel, which was erstwhile available, the Highline variant now comes with a manual AC panel from the entry-level ‘Comfortline’ variant as per T-BHP. This panel has three rounded switches for manual AC controls. With this, the fancier looking touch-sensitive automatic climate control panel is now available only in the ‘Topline’ variant.
Unlike Skoda, who also removed electrically foldable rearview mirrors from the mid-spec Ambition variant of Kushaq, along with the automatic climate control, the Volkswagen Taigun Highline variant continues to feature electrically foldable rearview mirrors. Despite omitting automatic climate control, Volkswagen has kept the prices of the Highline variant of the Taigun intact, with the manual version priced at Rs 13.00 lakh and the automatic version priced at Rs 14.40 lakh.
Volkswagen Taigun Highline
The Highline variant, along with the Comfortline and Topline variants between which it is positioned, is available with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged TSI petrol engine, which produces 115 PS of maximum power and 178 Nm of maximum torque. While a 6-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard in all three variants, the Highline and Topline variants can also be had with an optional 6-speed automatic gearbox.
In addition to these volume-driving 1.0-litre TSI variants, the Volkswagen Taigun is also available with two exclusive variants – GT and GT Plus. Both these variants come powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged TSI petrol engine, with their features list remaining intact. This bigger powertrain in these two variants pumps out 150 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque output. While the GT variant comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox, the GT Plus variant is solely available with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Volkswagen recently pulled the plug off from Polo and is now focusing on the launch of the Virtus sedan, which is coming in as a replacement for the already-discontinued Vento sedan.
