The ID 7 will be shown in preview at the CES in Las Vegas between 5 and 8 January 2023
WOLFSBURG
At the upcoming Consumer Electric Show (CES) in Las Vegan, Volkswagen will preview the new all-electric ID. 7 sedan, between 5 and 8 January 2023.
The ID. 7 marks the brand’s first fully electric sedan based on the modular electric drive matrix (MEB). Sketches for the ID. Aero concept previewed the ID. 7 with a low swooping design, aiming for aerodynamic performance and in turn, a long range.
“The ID.7 is one of ten new electric models that we are planning to launch by 2026,” shares Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars.
After launching the ID. 3, 4, 5, 6, and Buzz, Volkswagen integrated customer feedback into the ID. 7, leading to standard offerings such as augmented reality head-up display and a 15-inch infotainment screen.
The air-conditioning system also gets a new concept, with the ID. 7 able to detect when the driver is approaching based on the car key, and will cool or heat the interior depending on the exterior climate. New ‘Smart Air Vents’ also control the flow of air dynamically to ventilate the car as quickly as possible.
The air-condition functions are available on the large display that is also new in the ID. 7, and can be activated via voice commands.
At the CES, the ID. 7 will be presented in digital camouflage with a unique paintwork that lights up interactively. With 40 layers of paint, 22 areas of the vehicle can be controlled separately and will light up thanks to electroluminescence. When connected to a sound system, individual areas will light up in accordance with the rhythm.
QR codes are also available on the hood and both sides of the car, integrated with the digital camouflage that hides the contours of the final production vehicle.
Following the design language of the ID. vehicles, the ID. 7 features an aerodynamic front section and roof to reduce energy consumption and increase range. Air intakes on the front end guide the air to form an air curtain. The sloping roof is said to contribute to good drag coefficient, with a WLTP range of up to 700km. The spacious 2970mm wheelbase also contributes to a spacious interior.
Volkswagen aims to launch the ID. 7 in the China, Europe, and North America markets.
