Volkswagen has unveiled the all-new 2022 Volkswagen ID.Buzz van. Unlike its spiritual predecessor, the Volkswagen ID.Buzz uses an all-electric powertrain and this liberates plenty of space inside the van.
To put it simply, the 2022 Volkswagen ID.Buzz is an electric successor to the Volkswagen Kombi and according to the Geman automaker, the all-electric Volkswagen ID.Buzz will be launched in late 2023.
The Volkswagen Kombi is one of the most iconic vehicles manufactured by Volkswagen and the original Volkswagen T1 production started from 1950 and continued all the way till 1967 in Europe and US.
Apart from that, the Volkswagen T1 was available in different body styles such as 5-door Panel Van, 5-door minibus, 2-door pickup and 3-door crew cab.
One of the most noticeable feature of the Volkswagen T1 was its rear engine with rear-wheel-drive layout. This layout liberated plenty of space at the front and made the van feel a lot more spacious. Also, the engine options ranged from 1.1-litres to 1.6-litres in size.
The second generation was dubbed the ‘T2’ and this time the powertrain received a substantial update with engine options now ranging from 1.6-litres to 2.0-litres. However, it continued its iconic rear-wheel-drive layout with a rear-mounted engine.
This generation started production in 1968 and continued in production till 2013 in Brazil and the production ended by manufacturing 600 units of Last Edition Volkswagen Kombi.
Fast forward to 2022, the new Volkswagen ID.Buzz is built on the space-saving MEB concept. Thanks to this concept, the Volkswagen ID.Buzz offers 1,121-litres of luggage space with all seats up for all passengers.
To make the new Volkswagen ID.Buzz colourful and interesting, Volkswagen offers seven single colour options and four dual-tone exterior colour options. In addition to this, the interior upholstery can be customised to mimic the exterior theme.
Apart from that, the new Volkswagen ID.Buzz stands firmly with modern beliefs by opting to use vegan-friendly materials that feel very similar to leather.
Powering the upcoming Volkswagen ID.Buzz is an 82kWh lithium-ion battery pack and Volkswagen claims a topspeed of 145km/h. Apart from that, the latest ‘Plug & Charge’ tech enables this large battery pack to charge at 170kW.
Thoughts About 2022 Volkswagen ID.Buzz
The new Volkswagen ID.Buzz incorporates many design traits of the original Volkswagen Kombi van and it is refreshing to see the Volkswagen ID.Buzz in the current crop of SUV-centric product expansions.
